A 60 mm thick high density stone-wool insulation slab, finished on both faces with an ablative coating and intended as a fire penetration seal around mechanical and electrical services passing through fire resisting walls and floors or as a blank seal. The product is manufactured using an automated spraying and curing technique to ensure an even coating thickness. Added benefits include the system’s ability to provide a cold smoke seal, air tightness and excellent acoustic performance.
To install, the Ablative Coated Batts are simply cut and friction fitted between the services and the edges of the surrounding structure. Rockwool Acoustic Intumescent Sealant is used to seal around each service (or lagging) and around the perimeter where the batts meet the surrounding structure. Finally, the ablative coating is brush or spray applied over all joints to form a clean, monolithic layer.
Plastic pipes must be sleeved locally with Rockwool Insulated Pipe Sleeves as they pass through the Ablative Coated Batts (specify in clause 44). Where a fire resistance insulation performance is required for metal pipes, these need to be lagged with Rockwool Fire Tube or Pipe Sections.
For floor openings in excess of 600 x 600mm or where a load-bearing capability is required, Rockwool Firepro Firestop Compound is recommended.
Rockwool insulation products do not contain blowing agents with an ozone depletion potential (ODP) or global warming potential (GWP), are CFC-HCFC-HFC free and 97% recyclable. They will not react with metal components (1) or cause loss of plasticiser from PVC cables and pipes.
