Application

Application can be carried out to damp walls (Internally / Externally) or over a Type A internal basement waterproofing system such as Koster NB1 Grey. Application tools required are traditional plastering tools such as trowels, levels and straight edges.

A typical application to a bare and damp wall would involve the following work steps:

Preparation:

  • Ensure the substrate is clean and free of bond inhibiting items such as paint, plaster, dirts, etc. Loose masonry should be repaired prior to application.
  • If a DPC is required, Koster Crisin Cream or Koster Crisin Concentrate should be used.
  • Priming with Koster Polysil TG 500 optimally prepares the masonry for the application of KÖSTER Restoration Plaster. It hardens the substrate as well as reduces the mobility of salts.

Application:

  • Before the application of the main plaster coat, a "plaster key" made from the chosen Koster Restoration Plaster is mixed with Koster SB-Bonding Emulsion is applied to provide a larger surface area and to ensure an optimal bond to the substrate.
  • After this plaster key has received a short cure, Koster Restoration Plaster (Grey or White) can be troweled onto the wall and smoothened to suit the clients wishes.

Finishing:

  • Although Koster Restoration Plaster is often used in older buildings without subsequent painting, should a painted finish be desired there is a range of Koster silicon or mineral paints available.
  • Koster Plaster Coat creates a very smooth surface and can be applied when desired to meet architectural needs.

Description

Koster Restoration Plaster is a highly salt and pressure resistant plaster. It contains no gypsum or lightweight fillers and is designed for application onto damp surfaces or areas where dampness could be problematic for conventional render systems - such as basements.

Koster Restoration Plaster is available in either White or Grey as the final coating which exhibits a "restoration/open pored" type look and texture or can have Koster Fine Plaster applied over to give a smooth finish.

Features and Benefits:

  • Salt Encapsulating render.
  • Hydrophobic.
  • Pressure Resistant.
  • Open to Vapour Diffusion.
  • Aesthetic restoration finish.
  • Can be used as a part of a Type A Basement waterproofing system.
  • Can be used as a render over damp walls when retro fitting a DPC barrier.
  • Helps reduce the likelihood of condensation forming on the wall surface.
