BBA Agrément Certificate
Certificate type
Hot melt bitumen waterproofing green roof system.
A one-part hot applied rubberized bitumen membrane for use on inverted flat roofs, with limited pedestrian access.
Permaquik PQ 6100 is designed to accept minor structural movements and distributed loads without damage when used as described in Agrément Certificate 97/3336, although concentrated point loads may cause damage. On flat roofs, when used in an inverted roof specification including a minimum surface finish of 50 mm of aggregate, Permaquik PQ 6100 will achieve designation AA.
The membrane joins ‘new to old’ to form a monolithic bond when lapped with new hot material. It will self heal minor damage, in clean and dry conditions with light superimposed loads.
The membrane is to be applied by a Radmat Building Products Ltd approved contractor.
Substrates:
Concrete: Use traditional methods of concrete curing (i.e. water curing/wet coverings/paper/plastic sheets). Obtain approval from Radmat where concrete curing compounds (other than sodium silicate based) or release agents are proposed.
Precast concrete and concrete block: Decks to BS 6229 and BS 8217.
Metal/ plywood/ timber boarding: Surfaces to be free of oil, rust, paint or coatings which may inhibit the bond. Plywood must be WBP with durable ply species.
Substrate preparation:
Remove laitance, curing compound and form release agent from surface of concrete slabs by mechanical scarification, grinding, blast cleaning or chemical cleaning. Remove and smooth away any fins and nibs. Make good tie holes and damaged area with latex modified patching mortars, ensuring edges are slightly undercut. Existing surfaces must not be power washed prior to carrying out any works.
Ensure all detailing and flashings are completed before installing the membrane.
Primer:
Primer PQ 6109 – a bitumen based primer for concrete surfaces. Allow sufficient drying time (after rain, allow at least a day) before applying membrane (will not bond to surface conditioner which has not dried).
Insulation materials:
Radmat recommend the use of an extruded rigid polystyrene insulation in accordance with BS EN 13164 or the subject of a current BBA Certificate.
Filter layer:
Radmat Filter Fleece laid loose with 150 mm laps prevents migration of fire particles into a drainage medium, and prevents sharp stones, flints etc. from passing through the roof build-up. It is 3 mm thick and rot resistant. Trim the fabric to 50–75 mm above the ballast at the perimeter and penetrations. Extend fabric to outlets, ensuring not to cover or restrict water flow to the drainage outlet. Install additional fabric around penetrations to prevent stone entry into the space between the penetration and the insulation.
Surface Protection:
Use pre-cast pavings to avoid wind scour of gravel ballast and/or as walkways (particularly at traffic concentration points). For up to 10% of the total roof area, install pavings directly onto insulation. In excess of 10% of the total roof area, use supportive pedestals to provide a 10 mm (min) drainage layer or air space between the rigid insulation and pavings. Provide additional ballasting of the roof’s perimeter and field to resist wind uplift.
