Application

Lignalite is ideal when direct application of paint is needed. It is suitable for the construction of both loadbearing and non-loadbearing walls in locations such as:

  • The inner leaves of external cavity walls.
  • Internal walls, including fire break walls.
  • Separating walls.

Description

The 190 mm Lignalite blocks are produced using ultra-lightweight aggregates, resulting in a product that conforms to 20 kg manual handling guidelines. Ideal for all types of commercial project, their close-textured surface is perfect for direct decoration.

Manufactured to BS EN-771-3, Lignalite blocks are light and easy to lay with a technical performance fulfilling most applications.

Features and benefits:

  • Suitable for use in aesthetic applications where the blockwork is required to be directly painted.
  • Conforms to the 20 kg single lift guidance of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, and manual handling guidelines.
  • Can be used in loadbearing and non-loadbearing walls.
  • Allows large panels to be designed, reducing the need for wind posts or other structural framing.
  • Lightweight.
  • High technical performance.
  • For use internally, above and below ground.
  • Credits available under BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes.
  • CE marked to BS EN 771-3.

Generally, the mortar type for work above ground level should be designation (iii) / Compressive Class M4. Stronger mixes may be required if blocks are used below ground. Consult manufacturer for details.

Vertical movement joints should be considered in accordance with masonry design codes and the recommendations of Published Document PD 6697, at 6.0 - 7.0 metre spacings. In areas of increased stress, such as above and below openings in external walls, the blockwork may need to be reinforced to restrain movement.

The design of walls incorporating Lignalite blocks should be in accordance with relevant design standards, including BS 8103 Part 2, BS EN 1996-1-1 and the requirements of the Building Regulations.

The 190 mm Lignalite block enables the use of large panel sizes with reduced vertical or horizontal supports. Not only does this provide an immediate cost saving compared with the use of more slender walls, but it also improves the continuity of the blockwork construction process. As fewer structural supports are necessary, the number of connecting ties and movement joints is also reduced.
