Keim Concretal Lasur

Application

Keim Concretal Lasur should be applied by airless spray or brush and laid off with a lambs wool pile roller if necessary; it is important that a wet edge is kept at all times and that contractors work to a natural breakline. It is advisable to work from the bottom upwards, even with the application of the Keim Dilution coat. Keim Concretal Lasur should not be cut in at any time and the contents of the containers should be stirred frequently during application.

A suggested dilution ratio would be 3:1 (three parts Keim Concretal Dilution and one part Keim Concretal Lasur). Any subsequent coats shall have a minimum period of 12 hours allowed between coats.

Surface preparation:

  • Any new concrete surfaces shall be left for a minimum period of 15 days prior to any decoration using Keim Mineral Paints taking place.
  • Keim Mineral Paints should be applied onto wind dry surfaces where the moisture content on or near the surface (to a depth of 5 mm approximately) should be no greater than 18% by volume.
  • For on-site purposes, a moisture meter may be employed to give a qualitative reading – if the reading is in the green zone, decoration may proceed.
  • Any impurities or release agents should be removed from the concrete using Keim Concrete Cleaner. Surfaces should be pre-wetted and then Keim Concrete Cleaner applied by brush, diluted in a maximum ratio of 1:5 with clean cold water, and allowed to stand for at least 2–3 hours before thoroughly washing off. All surfaces must be thoroughly washed down with clean cold water to remove all surface dirt and dust.
  • All areas of spray paint, pencil/ pen marks and any other marks on the surfaces should be removed and all surfaces thoroughly washed down with clean cold water to remove dirt and dust. The Keim Concretal Lasur system is a colourwash and remaining surface marks will show through the applied system if not removed prior to application. When all surfaces are clean, sound, wind dry, dust free and free from all surface contaminants, decoration using Keim Concretal Lasur may proceed.

Thinning:

Keim Concretal Dilution is mixed into main coats to create a translucent effect. Site trials are offered to determine the best dilution ratios to achieve the optimum opacity and colour.
