The Kassel Kerb system has been specifically designed to allow bus drivers to near the kerb without tyre damage to enable the safe and easy boarding of all passengers - particularly the disabled.
Specifically for use at bus stops and in bus stations to help bus drivers dock close to, and parallel with, the kerb and to aid boarding and alighting for all passengers, particularly the disabled.
Used in over 1200 cities and towns across the UK and the continent, Kassel Kerb is one of Europe’s leading bus docking systems and comes in two heights which enable it to cater for non-hydraulic or hydraulic platform buses where the boarding platform can be lowered to ease access.
The patented design combines a smooth 75º face flowing into a bottom end radius to provide a smooth, curved profile. This serves to produce a self-steering effect allowing the bus to dock with the tyre very close to, or touching, the kerb – but without causing unnecessary tyre wear. This exclusive design therefore reduces the horizontal gap between kerb and bus platform.
The Kassel Kerb is available in 160 mm and 180 mm versions to work with all types of bus designs and enabling them to reduce the vertical step onto the bus. The ability to design out the horizontal and vertical gaps between bus platform and pavement is key to enabling quicker, safer access for all users of public transport.
Kassel Kerbs are manufactured in accordance with BS EN 1340: 2003 and have also been judged to conform to DIN 18024-1 'The certification scheme for barrier free designs, building and products'. The kerb's design ensures that it will not be displaced in service and the extra wide, patterned top surface is an important indicator to users that this is not a standard kerb.
