Framed encasement system providing up to 180 minutes fire protection to structural steel.
A steel encasement system which provides a rapid method of cladding structural steel sections to provide up to 180 minutes fire resistance. The system is designed to protect all universal column and beam sections, with flange thicknesses between 6 mm and 28 mm, described in BS 4-1 (1980), and will also protect many joist sections, portal frames, and castellated beam sections. It can be used in any type of building where encasement is required to structural steel.
The system comprises Gypframe lightweight steel framing and a range of Gyproc or Glasroc linings. Where steel section web dimensions exceed 600 mm, additional support may be required for the cladding.
Partitions and wall linings can be fixed through to the metal framework. Contact the British Gypsum Drywall Academy Advice Centre for guidance.
Where 180 minutes fire protection is required to columns, Glasroc FireCase s should be specified as the cladding (fixed through to the metal framing).
Water vapour resistance:
Vapour control can be provided to encasements which form part of an external wall lining by using Gyproc FireLine DUPLEX as the lining. Water vapour resistance can be further improved by treating the lining surface with two coats of Gyproc Drywall Sealer. Where Glasroc FireCase s or Glasroc MultiBoard forms the lining, vapour control can be achieved by using a suitable proprietary paint treatment.
Not suitable for use in areas subjected to continuous damp or humid conditions. Specify MR (moisture resistant) boards in intermittent wet areas.
