North Shore Rescue

North Shore Rescue's new operations center in North Vancouver replaces over 60 years of temporary structures with a purpose-built facility designed for the demands of mountain search and rescue. Architect Nick Bray prioritized sightlines, operational flow, and environmental sensitivity — situating the command center to overlook the mountains and helipad while stepping the roofline down toward the water to mirror the surrounding landscape. Longboard's aluminum cladding with a wood aesthetic was selected for its non-combustible properties, durability against Pacific Northwest conditions, and its ability to integrate naturally with the adjacent Cleveland Park. The building was constructed by the volunteers themselves.
