As part of an ongoing M1 improvement programme, the Leeming to Barton dual carriageway is undergoing a complete upgrade, which will transform it into a three-lane motorway with improved side road access. The programme also includes the provision of a new parallel local access road which will improve safety for local motorists. Contractor, Carillion, one of the UK’s leading integrated support services companies with extensive construction capabilities, searched for a manufacturer capable of supplying substantial levels of high-quality aggregate products including, Type 1, fill and Asphalt materials.

A639 road improvement scheme

Located immediately off the M1 Junction 44, the A639 from Leeds Road to Pontefract Road services the motorway slip road and a number of local distribution centres, including Royal Mail. The carriageway required extensive planing, adjustments and included the replacement of ironwork and kerbs. A key requirement of the project was that it needed to be completed quickly with minimum disruption to nearby businesses and the travelling public.

A720 Edinburgh City Bypass

The Sheriffhall Roundabout is known locally as the busiest roundabout in Scotland, assisting in the smooth flow of traffic into Edinburgh through the A720 and out again through the A7. In 2008 the twenty year old hot-rolled asphalt surfacing was coming to the end of its useful life and the decision was taken to increase the roads capacity by widening the approach carriageways and the roundabout itself by adding an extra lane.

Aggregate Industries asked once again to help

Having worked closely with Dowhigh Ltd and Sefton Council over the last few years, Aggregate Industries were once again asked to help with the traffic management and associated vehicular issues for this contract. The area in question was the Princess Way Roundabout/Crosby Road South highway at the Seaforth end of the docks, and the carriageway from the port exit to the roundabout under the A565 flyover.

Blists Hill Victorian Town

Blists Hill Victorian Town is an open air museum operated by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum, that has been designed to replicate the appearance and feel of a typical industrial town at the close of the 19th century. Chiswick Business Park, London

The Events Square at Chiswick Business Park was constructed in 2005 for the site's 13,000 employees to enjoy sports, concerts and functions. It also had to be durable enough to cope with heavy mobile machinery and as a loading area for heavy goods vehicles.

Drainasphalt just what the doctor ordered

In 2014, Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs The Royal Oldham Hospital, announced plans to create a new purpose built car park at Westwood Park for hospital staff. The car park would provide 562 spaces located much closer to the hospital and would also feature improved security, including CCTV monitoring, a new controlled pedestrian entrance allowing access for staff 24 hours a day and improved lighting.

East Midlands Airport

Continued growth of the airport facilities has lead to the requirement for additional car parking for both customers and staff. Stormwater discharges from the site were restricted and there was the additional constraint of ensuring that any new development would not place a further burden on the existing stormwater network that discharged via a series of on-site balancing ponds. East Midlands Airport and the Environment Agency were also keen to develop sustainable solutions that had a minimal impact on the local environment.

Goodwood estate

The Goodwood Estate was built in the 1600s and opened its doors to race enthusiasts in 1948 to host Britain’s very first post-war motor race meeting. The track’s complex history involved a painstaking restoration throughout the 1990s and in 1993 the Festival of Speed was established in the grounds of Goodwood Park. Over the last two decades, the festival has become world renowned and attracts the best drivers and vehicles, including the most current Formula 1 teams, Le Mans winners, racing motorcycles, and supercars.

Private residence, Kent

This private residence in rural Kent required an asphalt surfacing material for its large private driveway and parking area. The site was situated at the bottom of a sloped access road and had a narrow entrance. As such it required a material that would be durable enough to cope with vehicles reversing and turning within this tight access space.

Project Horizon - Surrey County Council

The project was established under a unique ‘Partnership’ form of contract whereby all parties; Tier 1, 2 and 3, form a ‘one team approach’ (Project Delivery Team comprises of members from each party). The idea of this partnership agreement is to eliminate the duplication of roles within the Project Delivery Team; providing the Council and end users with the most cost effective pavement solution.

In September 2016, the board announced plans to improve all car parking across its site for both staff and the public. The plan included the construction of a number of purpose built car parks, including a new 200 space car park at Cadewell Lane, spanning 2000ft² that would operate 24 hours a day.

Tunnel beneath the Mersey

The Kingsway Tunnel between Liverpool and Wallasey was in need of repair. The existing concrete road surface had become worn and smooth, meaning vehicle incidents during rush hour had become a frequent event. This was not a simple resurfacing job due to height restrictions in the tunnel and the time of day the work was permitted to be carried out. Our contracting team worked closely with the client, Merseytravel, to propose an effective plan of action for delivering this project safely and efficiently, relying on the unique benefits of its fleet of non-tipping trucks (NTTs).
