A common approach for the delivery of risers has been in modular, 3-storey units; a quick fix to fill a perilous void within a building during construction. Although a commonly discussed method, 3-storey modular units arent without their problems. They re-introduce work at height and do not prevent the spread of smoke and flame in the event of fire as required by statutory regulations; these are just a few of the hidden risks of 3-storey modular risers. But what other misconceptions lurk in the background, and how important is it to consider the whole project, rather than just M&E installation when designing a riser modular system?
