Description

Polypipe Underfloor Heating’s Red Panel System with ARDEX FLOWPLUS screed.

ARDEX FLOWPLUS is an all-in-one liquid cement screed that provides a cement-based flowing screed that offers great thermal conductivity, with full encapsulation of heating pipes.

Polypipe's Red Floor Panel System is a castellated panel system providing optimum UFH performance through precise pipe positioning and 360° screed encapsulation of heating pipes. Panels interlock to create a stable base for liquid screed application. The panel is manufactured from a vacuumed formed high impacted raisin enabling quick installation and easy cutting. Polypipe’s Red Floor Plate accommodates 15 mm and 18 mm diameter pipe. The heating pipe is predominately installed in a spiral pattern, at 100 mm or 200 mm centres.

Underfloor heating: Typical heat output at 50°C mean water temperature: At 100 mm pipe spacing: 91 W/m²; At 200 mm pipe spacing: 76 W/m².

Pre-screeding inspection in compliance with manufacturer's instructions.

Guidance for specification option:

Before commencing screed installation, verify:

  • All Red Floor Panel joints are correctly overlapped (no butt joints).
  • Panels secured around room perimeter with staples to prevent lifting.
  • Plastic skirt correctly positioned over panels with outside pipe run in skirt-covered castellations.
  • Manifold area: Pipes secured with clips (floor panels not used at manifold base).
  • No gaps between panels that could allow screed penetration beneath system.

Compressive strength: Minimum 150 kPa at 10% compression.

Dynamic stiffness: Minimum 20 MN/m³ (for impact sound insulation if required).

Thermal resistance: As required by Part L Building Regulations.

Downward heat loss: System insulation to limit downward heat loss to maximum 10 W/m² in accordance with BS EN 1264.

Separation layer

Polyethylene sheet to BS 6515 or equivalent, 500–1000 gauge (125–250 micron minimum), with 100 mm minimum lap joints, sealed with appropriate tape.

Screed

ARDEX FLOWPLUS self-smoothing liquid cement screed to BS EN 13813 and BS 8204-7.

Guidance for specification option:

Minimum screed depths: 40 mm domestic/ 50 mm commercial, factoring in minimum screed cover above pipes: 25 mm domestic/ 30 mm commercial.

Optimal screed thickness with Red Floor Panel system: 65 mm with rigid insulation below.

Height: Full depth of screed plus 25 mm minimum.

Application: Around all vertical elements including walls, columns, door frames, steps, pipes, and other penetrations.
