The performance of wood-based panels in fire can be greatly enhanced by the addition of a flame retardant during manufacture. This is the safest and most effective treatment method, and the certification and specification process is clear and simple. Flame retardants can also be applied by a third-party treater by post-impregnation or by applying flame retardant coatings to the panel’s surface. However, this process is much more complex and difficult to maintain the highest standards of quality assurance and certification. In all cases the product must be independently tested and certified to provide evidence of the level of fire protection claimed.

MEDITE EXTERIOR is used as an alternative to softwood, hardwood, plywood, plastic and metal in non-stressed applications. It can be used for a wide range of external applications including: external signs, shop fronts and external woodwork including fascias, exterior mouldings, door parts - raised and fielded panels, garden furniture components, exterior display stands, marine craft interiors and sports score boards. MEDITE EXTERIOR is suitable for conditions in accordance with H (Option 2) as defined by EN 622 part 5. To ensure durability, MEDITE EXTERIOR must be adequately sealed on all surfaces and edges with an exterior grade coating system. When appropriately coated, MEDITE EXTERIOR is suitable for use in Hazard classes 1,2 and 3 environments described within EN 335-3.

MEDITE FR CLEAR EUROCLASS B is an MDF panel developed specifically for use in environmentally sensitive interior applications where formaldehyde emissions need to be kept to a minimum but where a Euroclass B flame retardant board is also required under building regulations. Typical applications include wall linings, partitions, ceiling tiles, furniture, display panels and cases within sensitive areas such as museums, laboratories, hospitals and all public buildings. MEDITE FR CLEAR EUROCLASS B has no added formaldehyde within the manufacturing process. The resultant product far exceeds the performance requirements of the rigid Class E1 low formaldehyde standards and also the lower levels required by CARB2.
