Derek Coffey, a college lecturer, renovated a traditional 1800s-built Dutch barn in Llansilin, near Oswestry, Shropshire. The exterior of the barn is clad in burnt larch which looks fantastic and the interior of the home is equally impressive. When the renovation work reached an end in autumn 2023 the finished result was nothing short of stunning. The converted barn will now be a family home for Derek, his wife and their ten year old daughter.Coffey installed ECLISSE pocket door systems throughout the home in order to provide more usable space and better options for interior layouts. A total of ten pocket doors were installed, which were especially beneficial on both of the upstairs bedrooms leading onto ensuite bathrooms. “Installing pocket doors throughout the barn allowed us to save space and to use the space that we do have to better effect,” says Coffey. “We have another ensuite bedroom downstairs with a pocket door and the pocket doors on the downstairs toilet and utility room are especially beneficial as these doors would otherwise have clashed with one another when open – this problem is eliminated with sliding doors.”

This allowed more space for larger shower enclosures and enhanced room layouts. Double pocket doors were used to create more space and enhanced layouts in the living rooms to allow furniture to be placed closer to the edges of the room to create more spacious layouts that feel bigger. Product: 250 bespoke Classic Pocket Door System with accessoriesLocation: Chelsea Bridge Road, London, SW1W 8RGDeveloper: Qatari Diar GroupArchitect: Masterplanners - Dixon Jones, Squire & Partners and landscape architect Kim WilkieDevelopment: Over 440 two to Seven bedroom luxury residences and townhousesCompletion: The development is being completed in phases with the final phase expected to be completed in 2024.Image Source: Savills

Situated in a peaceful borough of the busy Capital of London, Cox architects designed an accessible house swimming in style. They were able to meet necessary needs for the family whilst holding on to aesthetic features that add a stunning look to the property. A open and spacious interior was a must for this property, as were sliding pocket doors, hoists and a wheelchair lift. Essential materials were used to make this house accessible for the couples youngest daughter, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic illness at 18 months old.  The decision to extend the property was decided very early on with the potential of a large extension. The couple was able to add nearly 70sqm to the ground floor alone, helping to give the family more independent freedom and space. Accessible elements were incorporated in to an everyday home such as ECLISSE pocket door systems and ECLISSE hoist pocket door systems to create an environment that wasn't consumed by accessibility needs. LOCATION: London Borough of Lambeth, SW17STATUS: Completed 2019BUILT: Elson Construction & Co. Villa Margherita: Seamless Flush-to-Wall Design for a Contemporary Home in Monza

Villa Margherita: Seamless Flush-to-Wall Design for a Contemporary Home in Monza

Eclisse UK

In a quiet residential area of Monza, Villa Margherita has been thoughtfully reimagined through a complete renovation led by Alessandra Parolini. Originally built in the 1950s, the villa retains its distinctive red brick façade, while the interiors have been transformed into a calm, contemporary living environment defined by light, continuity and carefully integrated architectural details.Designed for a family of three, the renovation focused on the mezzanine level of the property, creating spaces that feel open, welcoming and highly functional. A palette of light oak, neutral tones and continuous surfaces runs throughout the home, complemented by bespoke joinery and flush-to-wall solutions that maintain visual clarity across every room. The clients wanted a bright and comfortable home with generous storage and a separate kitchen designed for everyday living and entertaining. Oak, initially selected for the kitchen finishes, became the unifying material throughout the interior — appearing in the parquet flooring, custom cabinetry, living room panelling and fitted wardrobes. The south-east-facing living area benefits from expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing that replaces the original windows, opening the home towards the garden and enlarged terraces beyond. Natural light fills the interior throughout the day, softened by linen curtains and layered lighting designed to create a balanced and relaxing atmosphere. Recessed spotlights, concealed LED strips and suspended fittings work together to minimise visual clutter while enhancing the architectural features of the space.Flush-to-wall systems from ECLISSE play an important role in reinforcing the clean and minimal aesthetic of the project. The kitchen, tailored around the owner’s passion for cooking, is accessed through a double flush-to-wall sliding door system. Finished in the same colour as the surrounding walls, the primed door panels blend seamlessly into the architecture when closed, allowing the opening itself to become the defining feature. A deeper wall section frames the transition between living and kitchen spaces, creating a subtle portal effect that emphasises the threshold without interrupting the flow of the interior. This sense of continuity extends into the sleeping area, where full-height flush-to-wall hinged doors maintain the same pared-back design language. Openings throughout the home — both sliding and hinged — are free from architraves and decorative finishes, with surfaces painted to match the walls for a discreet, integrated appearance. Handles, shadow gaps and proportions become the only visible details, allowing the architecture to remain visually calm and cohesive. The bathrooms continue the project’s focus on texture and materiality. Ribbed tiles have been used in both spaces, arranged differently to create distinct atmospheres. In the shower room, vertically laid tiles emphasise height and movement, while in the second bathroom horizontal lines enhance the more intimate feel surrounding the freestanding bath. Accessed via a concealed sliding door, the space feels enclosed yet connected within the wider architectural language of the home.Across the bedrooms, soft neutral shades of beige, cream and pale yellow reinforce the calm and understated interior palette. In the child’s bedroom, a muted antique pink feature wall introduces a gentle touch of personality while remaining in harmony with the wider design scheme.Throughout Villa Margherita, flush-to-wall systems support both the aesthetic and practical ambitions of the renovation. By removing unnecessary visual interruptions, the design achieves a sense of continuity that enhances natural light, spatial flow and everyday comfort. For the design team, choosing ECLISSE was a natural decision based on previous experience with the brand. The quality of construction and ease of installation helped support a technically complex renovation involving integrated building services, radiant ceiling heating, ducted cooling, internal insulation and advanced home automation systems. In Villa Margherita, doors are not treated as secondary elements, but as part of the architecture itself — integrated seamlessly into the walls to help shape a refined, contemporary home defined by simplicity, light and continuity.Products: ECLISSE Syntesis CollectionProject Type: Renovation of an independent villa divided into two apartmentsArchitect: Alessandra ParoliniPhotography: Enrico Dal ZottoYear: 2025

Town Thorns Care Home, Rugby

A considered approach to accessibility, space optimisation, and care-led designTown Thorns Care Home in Easenhall, Rugby, has undergone a £4.3 million refurbishment, transforming the facility into a contemporary, high-quality residential care environment. Completed in 2023, the redevelopment delivers 44 fully refurbished ensuite bedrooms alongside a range of communal amenities, including a roof terrace garden, bistro, salon, shop, and multifunctional hall.Delivered by Stepnell on behalf of BEN—an automotive industry charity—the scheme places accessibility, dignity, and spatial efficiency at the heart of its design strategy.Image Source : Ben CareDesigning for accessibility without compromiseIn care environments, doorways are more than thresholds—they are critical points of interaction that can either enable or restrict movement. Traditional hinged doors often present challenges: their swing arc can obstruct circulation routes, create hazards for partially sighted residents, and complicate use for wheelchair users. To address these issues, 44 ECLISSE sliding pocket door systems were specified throughout the bedroom ensuites. By eliminating the need for a door swing, the systems maximise usable floor area and support more flexible, efficient room layouts—an essential consideration in care settings where space directly impacts usability and comfort.Seamless movement and safer environmentsThe top-hung design of the pocket door systems removes the need for a floor track or threshold strip, allowing for continuous flooring throughout. This not only enhances visual cohesion but also reduces trip hazards and improves overall circulation—particularly important for residents with reduced mobility.Generous clear opening dimensions (850mm width x 2302mm height) further support ease of access, accommodating both wheelchair users and care staff assisting residents.Integrating hoist systems with architectural designA key requirement within the scheme was the integration of ceiling track hoists to support safe and dignified resident handling. In rooms where hoists are installed, the track must pass uninterrupted between bedroom and bathroom—typically a challenge when specifying door systems.Image Source : Ben CareECLISSE UK’s patented Hoist Pocket Door System resolves this by allowing the hoist track to pass seamlessly through the door opening without compromising performance or accessibility. This enables:Smooth, uninterrupted transfer of residents between spacesReduced physical strain on care staffEnhanced safety and comfort for residentsCrucially, the solution achieves this while maintaining the spatial and functional benefits of a pocket door—something not easily realised with traditional hinged alternatives. The project successfully integrates 44 hoist-compatible pocket door systems, aligning architectural design with the operational demands of modern care environments. The result is a scheme that balances clinical functionality with a refined, residential feel—supporting both caregivers and residents through thoughtful design interventions.Product: 44 pocket door systemsLocation: Easenhall, Rugby, CV23 0JEConstruction Specialist: StepnellArchitect: KWL ArchitectsDevelopment: 44 refurbished ensuite bedrooms plus communal facilitiesCompletion: 2023Sources:https://ben.org.uk/bencare/town-thorns-care-home/https://www.stepnell.co.uk/https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/

ECLISSE the pocket door system of choice for retirement apartments, assisted living housing and care home projects

ECLISSE the pocket door system of choice for retirement apartments, assisted living housing and care home projects

Eclisse UK

According to the Office of National Statistics the UK population has been steadily getting older. Currently around seventeen percent of the population is over 65 and this trend is expected to rise to over 23% by 2035. This has resulted in a strong demand for luxury care homes, retirement apartments, assisted living housing and care homes. In line with this demand we have seen an increase in orders for pocket door systems for care related projects. This is because pocket doors can be easy to use for clients with reduced mobility, in a wheelchair, with impaired vision or with reduced grip/motor skills whilst still being aesthetically pleasing. Add to this the fact that ECLISSE pocket door systems are easy to assemble and install, maintenance free, come with a 15 year guarantee and are tested to 25 years of average use, it is unsurprising that our systems have become the system of choice for care home, assisted-living and retirement projects. The beauty of pocket doors is they are top hung so a threshold strip is not required, so nothing to obstructs smooth passage from one room to another. The fact that the door disappears into a pocket in the wall means that unlike with a hinged door there is no issue of the leading edge posing a hazard for partially sighted people. For wheelchair users our pocket door system can be installed with a minimum effective clear opening widths of 800mm or above. If required a partially glazed door can be added to the system for visibility and the door can be installed with an easy to hold bar handle instead of a flush pull.Accessibility issues posed by a hinged doorAccessibility offered by a pocket sliding door. For projects that provide a higher level of care our pocket door system for use with a hoist has been included. In another project where the focus is to provide a high level of independent living for wheelchair users our e-motion system which automates the opening and closing action of the pocket door either via switch, radar sensor or remote control has been specified. Here are a handful of examples of projects that provide a flavour of where and how our pocket doors systems are being incorporated into housing projects from retirement apartments to care homes.Hallmark Care Home, Brentwood, EssexProducts: 57 pocket door systems comprising of single and double unitsThis purpose-built, 77-bedroom care home in Hutton offering high standards of residential and dementia care. Beyond the Walls: A Coastal Renovation Defined by Light, Performance and Flush Design

Beyond the Walls: A Coastal Renovation Defined by Light, Performance and Flush Design

Eclisse UK

A 1960s seafront property in Porto San Giorgio has been transformed into a contemporary living environment through a comprehensive renovation led by Francesco Valentini. The project reconfigures the existing building into three independent residential units, combining spatial efficiency with high-performance building solutions.Leveraging the provisions of Italy’s “Piano Casa”, the design recovers and extends the footprint of a former west-facing portico. This intervention enables the creation of a 90 sqm apartment, a 30 sqm unit, and a 28 sqm studio, optimising the building’s volume without compromising its relationship with the surrounding landscape. The internal layout has been completely reworked through the removal of partitions and cavity walls, allowing for a new, high-performance building. The introduction of internal insulation, insulated cavities, and triple glazing significantly enhances thermal efficiency while maximising natural light and opening up uninterrupted views towards the sea and the historic village of Torre di Palme.A continuous terrace, approximately three metres deep, extends across the east–west elevation, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces—an essential feature for coastal living.High-Performance LivingThe building integrates advanced systems, including underfloor heating and ducted cooling, managed via a smart home system for remote control and energy monitoring. These solutions ensure year-round comfort while supporting energy efficiency targets.Material choices reinforce a sense of continuity and light. Natural oak flooring and softly textured wall finishes contribute to a neutral, contemporary interior palette designed to enhance spatial perception.Flush Systems as an Architectural FeatureFlush door systems and concealed elements are central to the project’s architectural language, supporting clean lines and visual continuity throughout. The ECLISSE 40 Collection is specified across the property, with primer-coated door panels ready for custom finishes. The installation orientation of the bevelled edge is carefully considered to respond to each space—either facing the living area or the corridor—enhancing both function and design coherence. This approach is complemented by the ECLISSE Delta Skirting Board, which mirrors the same angled geometry as the doors. The result is a coordinated detailing strategy that creates subtle shadow lines, adding depth while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.A bespoke finish in a muted blush tone incorporates a ECLISSE Syntesis Line Hinged door, concealing access to a bathroom within a single, continuous volume. This integrated solution also accommodates guest storage and technical space, demonstrating how flush systems can support both design clarity and practical functionality.Additional concealed solutions include the ECLISSE Syntesis Areo, used to discreetly close off storage areas, and service compartments. Finished to match the surrounding walls, these panels disappear into the architecture, reinforcing the project’s clean and cohesive appearance.Living the LandscapeThe bathrooms and bedrooms continue the project’s design narrative, with bold material choices, continuous surfaces, and large glazed openings that maximise daylight. In the attic space, the bedroom is conceived as a private retreat, featuring a freestanding bathtub and integrated wardrobe area.More than a renovation, this project represents a considered approach to modern living—where performance, aesthetics, and spatial fluidity are fully aligned. The result is a home that not only responds to contemporary needs but also frames and enhances its coastal setting, making the landscape an integral part of the living experience.Project: Coastal RenovationYear: 2025Location: Porto San Giorgio, ItalyDesigner: Francesco ValentiniPhotography: Enrico Dal Zotto

Case Study: Oil Mill L’Olinda, Italy

Case Study: Oil Mill L’Olinda, Italy

Eclisse UK

Set within more than ten hectares of centuries-old olive groves in the heart of the Marche region, Oil Mill L’Olinda. The renovation of the original 19th-century farmhouse required a highly sensitive architectural approach — one that balanced environmental responsibility with contemporary comfort and refined design.Blending Tradition with the NewThe design concept deliberately brings together traditional materials and modern architectural language. The building’s façade features exposed brickwork created exclusively from bricks salvaged during the demolition of the original farmhouse, preserving the site’s material history while reducing waste. This textured, historic surface is paired with bleached timber used for the roof and flooring, lightening the visual mass of the structure and introducing a fresh, contemporary contrast. The result is a unique architectural identity — rooted in the past, yet unmistakably modern.Interior Spaces with Purpose and CharacterInside, the interior opens into a striking double-height hall, designed as a communal space for olive oil tastings and gatherings. Surrounding this central area are five guest rooms, each named after traditional olive varieties native to the Marche region: Carboncella, Coroncina, Raggia, Rosciola and Mignola — reinforcing the project’s strong connection to place and tradition.ECLISSE 40: A Contemporary Interpretation of HeritageA defining design feature is found in the corridor leading to the guest rooms, where access points are marked by the sculptural presence of ECLISSE 40 door frames. Their characteristic inclined profiles create dramatic splays, producing a refined play of light and shadow that brings movement and depth to the circulation space.Finished in a light bronze tone, the frames subtly reference historic construction details and architectural forms of the past, while delivering a distinctly modern aesthetic. The result is a sense of architectural solemnity balanced with freshness and elegance.Beyond their visual impact, the ECLISSE 40 frames incorporate state-of-the-art technology, combining durability, precision engineering and clean detailing — demonstrating how contemporary door systems can enhance heritage-inspired interiors without compromising performance.Design that Respects PlaceOil Mill L’Olinda is a clear example of how thoughtful product selection can support sensitive renovation projects. By integrating ECLISSE solutions, the designer achieved a seamless dialogue between tradition and innovation — enhancing the spatial experience while respecting the spirit of the original building.

The Restoration of a Historic Sicilian Residence

The Restoration of a Historic Sicilian Residence

Eclisse UK

Tucked away in the heart of a Sicilian town, this 19th-century townhouse was rich in potential but weighed down by years of unsympathetic alterations. False ceilings, terrazzo floors, and heavy finishes had dulled its character. But beneath the layers was a story worth telling—and a home ready to be reborn.Architects Ignazio Buscio and Gabriella Anzelmo approached the project with a light touch and a clear vision: to let the original architecture shine while adapting the space for contemporary living. The result is a stunning, understated fusion of old and new—made possible in part by the seamless integration of ECLISSE’s flush-to-wall solutions.Respecting the Past, Designing for TodayAll non-original elements were carefully stripped away, revealing vaulted terracotta ceilings and original cement tiles. These authentic features now anchor the space in history, giving the home a sense of soul and place. The architects then reimagined the layout, creating an open, flowing floorplan that connects the kitchen, living room, courtyard, and rooftop terrace. Why ECLISSE?To maintain the sense of continuity and calm, the architects selected ECLISSE Syntesis systems. These are not just doors—they’re architectural tools that disappear when not in use, letting the architecture take center stage.Syntesis® Line Hinged Doors: Flush-fitting, with no visible frames or architraves, these doors blend into the wall, delivering a clean, contemporary look—perfect for heritage properties where visual disruption is unwelcome.Syntesis® Line Sliding Doors: Used to divide private areas like bathrooms and bedrooms only when needed. When open, they vanish inside the wall cavity, preserving openness and flow.Syntesis® Areo Flush Panels: Concealing technical spaces like the pantry, laundry, and storage cupboards, these minimalist hatches are almost invisible—offering full utility without visual clutter.“We chose solutions that were non-invasive and nearly invisible, so they wouldn’t steal the show from the building.” — Architect Ignazio BuscioThroughout the house, whitewashed walls meet the warm texture of exposed brick and original vaults. Large windows fill the space with daylight. Nothing feels imposed. Everything feels intentional. The living area now flows seamlessly into the courtyard and terrace, which together create a natural extension of the home. Inside, subtle architectural moves—like pivoting glass doors and concealed sliding panels—allow residents to shape their environment as needed, without sacrificing beauty for function.Project: Restoration of a Historic Sicilian TownhouseLocation: Urban centre near Palermo, SicilyArchitects: Ignazio Buscio & Gabriella AnzelmoCompleted: 2024ECLISSE Products Used: Syntesis Line battente, Syntesis Line scorrevole, Syntesis Areo

Thanks to the absence of any frame and exterior finish the doors help to create a clean and refined look to the entire project.
