Two Tier Cycle Rack

The Two Tier Cycle Rack is a high-density, space-efficient cycle parking solution that doubles the number of bicycles that can be stored within a given footprint by stacking two levels of parking within the same floor area. Manufactured in Britain from hot-dipped galvanised steel to BS EN ISO 1461:2022, it is one of the most widely specified rack systems across residential, commercial, educational, and transport developments in the UK, offering a proven, cost-effective route to meeting high cycle parking numbers within constrained internal areas.

How It Works

The upper tier slides out and lowers on a counterbalanced mechanism, allowing users to load and unload their bicycle without requiring gas assistance or significant physical effort. Once mounted, both the frame and wheels can be secured to the integrated locking hoops, providing individual theft deterrence for every stored bicycle across both tiers. Standard spacing is 375mm centres on single-sided installations and 400mm centres on double-sided layouts, with a minimum installation height of 2500mm required (2400mm accommodatable where headroom is constrained). A minimum depth of 1900mm is required, with an additional 1300mm of clear loading space in front of the rack.

Variants and Upgrades

The standard Two Tier Cycle Rack is available with an optional upgrade to gas-assisted EasyGrip handles on the upper tier, providing smoother upper tier operation for users. For projects where gas-assisted operation is a primary specification requirement, the dedicated Gas Assisted Two Tier Cycle Rack is the appropriate product, featuring tamper-proof gas struts as standard. For projects where independently certified security is a named planning condition or client requirement, a Secured by Design variant is available, offering Sold Secure Silver accreditation and Police Preferred Specification status across both standard and gas-assisted configurations.

For developments with a growing proportion of electric bicycle users, the Two Tier E-Bike Rack accommodates the increased weight and frame profiles of e-bikes and includes integrated twin-gang 13A 240V charging sockets as standard.

Construction and Finish

The rack is manufactured from galvanised mild steel as standard, with a polyester powder coat in any RAL colour available for projects where the rack must integrate with the architectural finish of the surrounding cycle store. The modular format allows the system to be scaled to any capacity and expanded in phases, supporting phased developments or sites where cycle parking demand is expected to grow over time. The rack is compatible with all major bike shelters and bike enclosures in BSC's range, and can be specified as a standalone rack within any existing shelter or internal bike store.

Bike Compatibility

The rack is suitable for cycles with tyres up to 65mm in width. Lower channels can be switched to Sheffield stands where compatibility with a wider range of bicycle types, including larger-framed cycles and e-bikes, is required on the lower tier. CAD drawings and layout plans are available on request. All Two Tier Cycle Racks are British-made and backed by a 10-year manufacturing defects warranty.
