Product Application – The Goat® Airtight Flexible Sealant

General

Apply in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions to maintain continuity of the airtight and vapour control layer.

The sealant shall be installed to provide a continuous, flexible and durable seal at all service penetrations and junctions within the building envelope.

Suitable Applications

• Sealing around pipe, cable and duct penetrations
• Airtight detailing at service entries through walls, floors and roofs
• Junctions between dissimilar substrates
• Sealing interfaces within airtight and vapour control systems
• Retrofit sealing works where membrane continuity has been compromised

Substrate Preparation

Substrates shall be:

• Clean and dust-free
• Dry and free from grease, laitance or loose material
• Structurally sound

Where gaps are present, ensure voids are appropriately filled or supported prior to sealant application.

Application Conditions

• Minimum application temperature: +5°C and rising
• Do not apply to frozen or saturated substrates
• Protect from rainfall or excessive moisture during curing

Installation

• Apply using a standard cartridge gun.
• Install a continuous bead around the penetration or junction.
• Tool the sealant to ensure full contact with both substrate and penetration.
• Ensure no voids, pinholes or gaps remain.
• Apply sufficient material thickness to accommodate anticipated movement.

The cured sealant shall form a flexible, airtight and waterproof barrier capable of accommodating thermal and structural movement.

Integration with Airtight Systems

The Goat® shall be installed to ensure full integration with adjacent liquid membranes, vapour control layers and air barrier systems.

Particular attention shall be given to:

• Service penetrations in airtight membranes
• Interfaces between masonry and timber structures
• High-movement zones

Completed works shall maintain airtight continuity in preparation for air pressure testing.
