Application

Siderise Nexus Core provides a non-combustible stone wool insulation core for composite structures such as architectural panels and doors.

Siderise Nexus Core provides a cost-effective pre-finished rigid core to be used wherever thermal, fire, and acoustic insulation is required within a bonded composite structure.

Description

Siderise Nexus Core boards are manufactured from stone wool slabs formulated to a Siderise specification and classified as Euroclass A1. The A1 classification applies to the primary stone wool core only and does not extend to any foil or mesh layers added during final assembly.

Stone wool is produced from molten volcanic rock and provides fire resistance, acoustic performance and thermal insulation.

The Nexus process involves cutting the stone wool into strips and rotating them through 90 degrees so the fibres are oriented perpendicular to the board surface. The strips are laterally compressed to form a homogeneous board with increased rigidity compared with a standard stone wool slab of equivalent density.

During compression, an open filament net facing is applied to maintain compression and assist handling. The board should be bonded on the net‑faced side using compatible adhesives.

Features and benefits:

  • Nexus Core incorporates a stone wool core that is classified A1 to European Fire Classification (EN 13501-1).
  • Precision manufacturing and tight tolerances optimise product strength.
  • Manufacturers can reduce cost/weight with thinner facings.
  • Low thickness tolerance means that thinner faces remain aesthetically pleasing.
  • Open filament net facilitates a strong adhesive bond and enables easy handling.
  • The Nexus production process produces a strong, homogeneous stonewool core optimizing composite performance.

Guidance for specification option:

The fire rating of a panel system will depend on a variety of factors including:

  • Nexus Core grade and thickness.
  • Facing type and thickness.
  • Panel cover width, span, joint detail and fixing.

Consult manufacturer for details.

Sound insulation rating

Manufacturer's standard.

Guidance for specification option:

The acoustic performance is system-specific and is heavily influenced both by the materials used and the way they are assembled. The acoustic performance of a given panel using Nexus Core depends primarily on the surface mass of the panel linings and the depth of the cavity.

Consult manufacturer for details.
