Application

Permarock Mineral Fibre EWI systems are suitable for use above damp-proof course (DPC) level on buildings of dense or no-fines concrete, brickwork, blockwork, or suitably sheathed light steel frame or timber frame buildings, in any geographical location including those classified as having very severe exposure to wind-driven rain.

The System is a mechanically and adhesively fixed, mineral wool insulated, external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS).

Suitable for residential and non-residential building types of any height where the highest levels of fire safety and non-combustibility are required.

Permarock systems are only for installation by Permarock registered installers.

A layer of basecoat with reinforcement mesh is applied to the mineral fibre insulation boards. The System is finished with the Permarock K & R Primer and the Permarock Silicone Ultra K render.

When applying the system to existing masonry walls, all existing rendered coatings must be removed in their entirety. The surfaces must then be treated with the Permarock Fungicidal Wash, followed by the application of the Permarock Dubbing-out Compound to achieve a uniform substrate suitable for the installation of the Permarock EWI system.

When applying the system to new build masonry walls, all new walls shall be allowed to dry and settle for at least 2 weeks prior to applying the Permarock EWI system.

When applying the system to sheathed SFS / TF walls, substrates are required to be sound, dimensionally stable, clean and dry. Sheathed steel / timber panels shall be flush / in-pane, plumb and true to line and level.

The Permarock SiliconeUltra K Finish can be applied manually, using clean stainless steel trowels, or by machine using suitable spraying equipment.

Immediately after application (by trowel or machine), the material should be rubbed down to the grain size and any excess material should be removed, leaving a uniformly textured decorative finish.

Wherever possible, entire elevations shall be completed in a single operation to avoid joint marks in the finish. Often this can be achieved by working to natural breaks in the building or working to breaks in colour or texture.

System installation:

The system shall be installed by a specialist installation contractor registered with Permarock Products Ltd.

Colour Consistency:

  • For render colours with a lightness factor (LF) of ≤ 15, overpainting should always be carried out.
  • For render colours with LF between 15 and 20, overpainting is strongly recommended.

Weather / Temperature / Protection

Do not apply cement-based materials when the temperature is below 5 oC on a falling thermometer or below 3 oC on a rising thermometer.

Do not apply material when the temperature of the air or wall surface is in excess of 30 oC or when Summer strength sunlight is hitting the area square on without affording protection against rapid drying which can result in loss of strength and/or patchiness/shade differences in the

Description

High-performance mineral fibre external wall insulation (EWI) system comprising of non-combustible Euroclass A1 insulation, reinforced base coat and silicone render finish. The system achieves Euroclass A2-s1,d0 (EN 13501-1) and is meant for installation above DPC level.

Permarock Mineral Fibre external wall insulation (EWI) systems are fire-safe, high-performance thermal insulation systems suitable for application to new or existing buildings including relevant buildings as defined in the Building Regulations. Systems are suitable for use at any height and in proximity to any boundary.

Features and benefits:

  • Suitable for all 'Relevant Buildings' as defined in the Building Regulations, including residential buildings with a storey height above 11 m;
  • Excellent fire performance: Non-combustible (Class A1) mineral (stone) fibre insulation - Fire breaks are not required;
  • A2-s1,d0 reaction to fire classification (EN 13501-1);
  • No restrictions on proximity to boundaries;
  • Adhesively bonded and mechanically fixed insulation;
  • High resistance to wind loads;
  • Mechanically anchored reinforcement layer: Provides enhanced resistance to wind loading and additional structural stability in a fire;
  • High impact resistance;
  • Low embodied energy;
  • Thermal conductivity: 0.036–0.039 W/mK (depending on insulation specified);
  • Ecopoints score of 0.10 (m²) - 'Excellent' rating;
  • Acoustic benefit over other insulant types;
  • Has a working design life of in excess of 30 years.

Finishes and aesthetics:

  • Permarock SiliconeUltra K-Finish available in over 500 colour shades;
  • Highest binder stability with Class A resistance to chalking;
  • Group 1 light fastness for excellent colour retention and long-term durability.

Design considerations:

  • U-value calculations can be carried out for each project to determine the thickness of insulation required to achieve particular thermal performance requirements;
  • For high-rise buildings, a wind load assessment should be carried out by a suitably qualified structural engineer and the results should be provided to Permarock to enable an optimised fixing arrangement to be provided;
  • Contact Permarock to discuss your proposed design to enable us to assist you in specifying the correct system and component parts;
  • Further information can be obtained from Permarock's Technical Hub

Beads and trims:

  • A full range of beads, trims, profiles and seals is available to enable the system to be interfaced with other building elements.

Permarock Mineral Fibre Insulation boards are dual-density, non-combustible thermal insulation boards used as the insulation layer within Permarock Mineral Fibre external wall insulation systems.

The Permarock Mineral Fibre insulation is adhesively bonded and mechanically fixed and can be applied onto walls of dense or no-fines concrete, brickwork, blockwork, or suitably sheathed light steel frame or timber frame construction, in any geographical location including those classified as having very severe exposure to wind-driven rain.

The Permarock Mineral Fibre Insulation boards carry full accreditation in accordance with our KIWA BDA Agrément certificate.

Advantages:

  • Non-combustible - Class A1 (BS EN 13501-1);
  • Dimensionally stable;
  • Stable thermal performance using entrapped air - will not deteriorate;
  • Superior acoustic performance compared with rigid foam insulants;
  • Low embodied energy;
  • High water vapour permeability - allows walls to 'breathe'.

Technical Data:

  • Fire Behaviour: A1;
  • Standard dimensions (mm): 1200 x 600;
  • Standard thicknesses (mm): 50 - 250 mm in 10 mm increments;
  • Thermal conductivity: 0.036 W/m2K;
  • Reaction to fire: Class A1 (BS EN 13501-1) - non-combustible;
  • Tensile strength: TR10 (BS EN 13162:2012 + A1:2015);
  • Colour: yellow-green.

Permarock Mineral Fibre Insulation has a high density outer face (to receive the render system) and a lower density backing.

Permarock Adhesive should be applied to the back face (lower density) to enable bonding to substrate (brickwork, blockwork and dense or no-fines concrete and other uneven surfaces). The lower density material will accommodate slight imperfections in the surface of the building fabric.

Permarock Lamella Adhesive is used for bonding to smooth mineral substrates, such as sheathing boards.

In addition to adhesive bonding, Permarock Mineral Fibre Insulation boards must also be mechanically fixed using suitable Permarock approved fixings.

Permarock SiliconeUltra K Finish is a high-performance exterior through-colour textured render based on a hybrid binder system of organically crosslinked nano-quartz particles and silicone emulsion. It is a lightweight, water-repellent finish with excellent water vapour permeability which incorporates photo-catalytic particles which actively break down dirt particles enabling them to be washed from the surface under normal weathering. PermaRock SiliconeUltra K-Finish resists aggressive air-borne pollutants, provides enhanced resistance to dirt pick-up and contains a preservative against coating deterioration due to algae and fungus.
