Application

Suited for the upgrade of existing buildings, and for new buildings, particularly where exemplar levels of thermal performance are required.

Permarock EPS Premium EWI systems are suitable for installation above damp-proof course (DPC) level on masonry walls (where masonry includes clay and calcium silicate bricks, concrete blocks, and natural and reconstituted stone blocks) or concrete supporting walls, pre-cast or in-situ concrete (dense, lightweight or no-fines).

The System is for existing and new residential and non-residential buildings.

The System consists of EPS insulation boards which are adhesively bonded and mechanically fixed to the masonry supporting wall or horizontal protected surfaces such as soffits.

A layer of basecoat with reinforcement mesh is applied to the EPS insulation boards. The System is finished with the Permarock Dashing Mortar and Permarock Dry Dash Decorative Finish.

When applying the system to existing walls, all existing rendered coatings must be removed in their entirety. The surfaces must then be treated with the Permarock Fungicidal Wash, followed by the application of the Permarock Dubbing-out Compound to achieve a uniform substrate suitable for the installation of the Permarock EWI system.

When applying the system to new build masonry walls, all new walls shall be allowed to dry and settle for at least 2 weeks prior to applying the Permarock EWI system.

Permarock Dashing Mortar is applied onto the fully hardened basecoat / reinforcement layer using traditional methods (hawk and stainless steel trowel). The Dashing Mortar should be applied as an even layer of uniform thickness; Particular care should be taken to maintain a wet

edge to avoid lift marks at scaffold board level.

The application rate / thickness will depend on the type of dashing stones to be used. Heavier or larger dashing stones will require a larger rate of application / thicker application compared to the smaller ones.

The clean, washed dashing aggregate should be applied by casting the stones into the Dashing Mortar whilst it is still plastic so that a uniform, dense coverage is achieved.

If required, the stones can be lightly tamped into the surface of the Dashing Mortar using a wood float to ensure that a good bond is achieved. Care should be taken not to oversink the stones.

After completion of the aggregate application, beading that is to remain exposed should be wiped clean of surplus Dashing Mortar to leave a clean edge.

Drying/Curing Times:

At 20 ºC and 65% RH the material is sufficiently dry after 24 hours.

Protection:

Newly applied material should be protected from strong sunlight, drying winds, frost and precipitation / rainfall during the drying and curing period. Protect adjacent surfaces. Remove splashes immediately with clean water.

Working Temperature:

Permarock Dashing Mortar should be used dry and should be stored above 0 ºC.

Permarock Dry Dash comprises pre-washed and screened Dashing Aggregates which incorporate different types and colours of stones that are blended together and applied onto a specially formulated, self-coloured, polymer-enriched mineral-cement dash receiver, Permarock Dashing Mortar (DM), which provides enhanced performance over traditional sand/cement renders.

Colour Range:

  • Permarock Dashing Mortar: 3 standard colours;
  • Dashing Stones: 32 standard blends.

Colour Options: Special colours can be produced subject to minimum order quantities.

Number of Textures: 1

Permarock Dashing Mortar is a factory-batched, polymer-modified, self-coloured, cement-based spar dash receiver used to create traditional ‘pebble dash’ render wall surfaces. It is supplied as a pre-coloured mineral dry powder premix, requiring only the addition of water and mixing on site. Permarock Dashing Mortar is used as a decorative finish with Permarock External Wall Insulation Systems and Permarock Exterior Render Systems. It is available in a range of standard colours including Grey, White, Yellow, Cream, Red and Pink. For other colours, please contact Permarock.

Pack size: 25kg sacks.

Storage: Store in closed sacks, off the ground, dry and protected from moisture. Avoid frost.

Approximate coverage rate: 6-8 kg/m2

Lime Bloom: Lime bloom manifests itself as a lightening of colour caused by the formation of a fine surface deposit of calcium carbonate on cement-based renders. Lime bloom can occur as an overall lightening of the render colour, or as heavier deposits, sometimes uniformly distributed across the surface, sometimes patchy in appearance. Colour variations tend to be more obvious when lime bloom occurs on uniformly coloured or darker coloured renders.

Lime bloom is a naturally occurring phenomenon, is purely superficial and has no detrimental effect on the durability, strength or performance of the render - it cannot therefore be deemed a technical failure in any respect.

Further information on lime bloom, its causes, and mitigation measures can be found in Permarock technical Bulletin TB008.
