Application
Product Application – Airtight Tape
Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s written instructions to maintain continuity of the airtight and vapour control layer.
The tape shall be installed to create a durable, flexible and permanent seal at junctions, overlaps and penetrations within the building envelope.

- Airtight detailing at service penetrations
- Connections between dissimilar substrates
Substrate Preparation
Substrates shall be:
- Clean and dust-free
- Dry and free from grease or release agents
- Structurally sound and stable
Loose particles shall be removed prior to installation.
Highly porous or friable substrates should be consolidated where required.
Installation Method
- Cut tape to required length prior to application
- Remove release liner gradually during installation
- Apply firmly to substrate ensuring full surface contact
- Use pressure roller or hand pressure to ensure strong adhesion
- Avoid creases, folds or trapped air
At corners and junctions, ensure adequate overlap to maintain airtight continuity.
Plastering and Finishing
The fleece-backed surface is suitable for plastering, skimming or painting once installed.
Ensure plaster systems fully encapsulate the fleece layer where required by specification.
Performance Requirements
The completed installation shall:
- Maintain continuous airtightness
- Prevent air leakage at junctions and interfaces
- Integrate fully with adjacent membranes and coatings
- Remain durable under normal building movement
Description
IM Fleece Tape is the professional way to lock in airtightness at the details that fail blower door tests: window and door reveals, junctions, penetrations and membrane joints.
The fleece backed construction bonds aggressively to timber, brick, concrete, masonry, window frames and membranes, even at low temperatures, and can be plastered or painted over for invisible integration into the building fabric. A moisture dependent (variable) SD value lets each detail dry out when the fabric needs to release vapour, supporting the intelligent breathability of the Passive Purple system.
Stretchable and durable, IM Fleece Tape handles movement at corners and joints, with temperature resistance from -40C to +80C, 12 months UV stability and an approx. 350 g/m2 fleece at 0.55mm thickness. Rolls are available in 75mm, 100mm, 150mm and 200mm widths x 25m, as single rolls or trade boxes.
Use it alongside Passive Purple or Airtight White liquid membranes and The GOAT Liquid Grommet around services to deliver a continuous airtight layer on new builds, retrofits and Passivhaus projects.
