The R16 Two-Hour Fire-Rated Meter Over Box is a steel access panel designed to provide secure access to electricity, gas and utility meter installations while maintaining the fire integrity of compartment walls. Suitable for new-build and refurbishment projects, the surface-mounted over box is installed over new or existing recessed meter openings, making it ideal where fire compartmentation and future maintenance access are required.

Manufactured from high-quality steel, the R16 range features a flush metal door with concealed steel hinges, a 25 mm picture frame, and a durable 70 mm deep steel frame as standard. The panel is supplied with a budget lock incorporating an 8 mm triangular electrical cabinet insert, with alternative locking options available to suit project requirements. The door and frame are finished in a durable RAL 9010 (30% gloss) polyester powder coating as standard, with bespoke colours and frame depths available on request.

The R16 Meter Over Box has been independently tested in accordance with BS EN 1634-1, achieving up to 2 hours fire resistance in wall applications for sizes up to 1070 × 650 mm, as covered by Fire Test Certificate No. 435047. Larger sizes are manufactured using the same materials and construction principles as the tested specimen.

Ideal for concealing gas, electricity and utility meter installations within residential, commercial and public buildings while maintaining fire compartmentation.

Installation

Designed for surface mounting over recessed gas, electricity and utility meter boxes within fire-rated wall constructions.

• Install onto a prepared wall substrate using suitable mechanical fixings through the pre-drilled frame fixing points.
• Apply approved intumescent sealant or fire-rated sealing system around the perimeter where required to maintain the fire performance of the wall.
• Ensure utility meters remain accessible in accordance with relevant utility provider and electrical regulations.
• Install in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and relevant fire test evidence.
