This holiday home has nothing to hide and is unabashed about its history. It proudly exposes its original stonework and sand-based interior plastering. Of course, it does admit to having a modern roof truss from the 1990s, an exposed interior concrete bond beam, and various openings in the structure that testify to more or less successful modifications over the years. It also boasts contemporary technology and thoughtful details: a kitchen featuring TechniStone® engineered stone, an ecological barrel for collecting rainfall, and stone elements purchased from architectural salvage yards that fit perfectly into the overall mosaic. The success of the resulting reconstruction is proven by, among other things, the building’s nomination for a prize in the Grand Prix of Architects competition.Reconstruction of the house, which sits on the edge of a small village and has a beautiful view over the meadows of the Šumava mountains in the Czech Republic, captured the imagination of architects Vojtěch Hybler and David Dvořák of the Prague architectural studio Archport. “We carried on a dialog with the client for six months and clarified exactly what he wanted. From the outset of construction, either I or my colleague visited the job site at least once a week. That may seem like a lot of effort, but it’s how we were able to discover and preserve a number of interesting details and witness the uncovering of some hidden treasures,” says the architect, Dvořák.  The Turning Point of the Project One of the big “aha” moments that established the nature and direction of the reconstruction project was the use of a sand-based plaster undercoating. “The stones from which the house was constructed are entirely ordinary and were brought in from the surrounding fields. From the exterior they looked just fine, so we decided to leave the walls as is, but that kind of stone didn’t suit the interior. We were looking for a solution when the workers put a sand-based plaster up on the interior walls. Normally that doesn’t look too good by itself, but we liked it — its slight color variations and interesting structure gave off a natural impression. So we decided to leave it up in one layer and put a sealant on it without covering it up with anything else. That plaster was an important inspiration for the rest of the project. We became aware of it simply because we were physically present on the jobsite so often,” says Vojtěch Hybler.   Respecting Past Reconstructions The authenticity of the house is strengthened by other structural elements and details, including an exposed concrete bond beam added to the interior and various windows whose size and location the architects didn’t change. They restored some openings in the structure that had been bricked up in the past. They also decided to preserve some windows in the roof which really are not typical of such houses, but retain their usefulness in the living space under the roof. Engineered Stone as a Practical Alternative An emphasis on practicality played a key role in creating the kitchen area. In a house where stone is the dominant aesthetic element, the architects suggested using it in the kitchen as well. However, that idea was rejected by the investor because of natural stone’s porosity, water absorption, and difficulty of maintenance. He also was concerned about the possibility of damage to the surface caused by intensive daily use. Fortunately, the architects came up with another solution. “We constructed the kitchen countertops and the walls behind them with TechniStone® engineered stone, to which we were introduced by one of our sub-contractors. The durability of the material and its ease of maintenance, as well as the possibility of forming it into thin sheets that in this case have a thickness of just 20 millimeters, convinced us to use it,” explains David Dvořák.  “TechniStone® is a material made with natural raw materials and produced in the Czech Republic, which is certified for contact with food, making its use in the kitchen no problem,” says Anežka Jeřábková, Technistone’s product manager. She adds, “The architect and the investor chose Noble Vintage in a matte finish for this kitchen because they were looking for a subdued pattern and a light color — the kitchen is located in a dark corner of the house and has relatively dark rustic furniture. Noble Vintage is very popular among architects because it combines well and has an attractive but not too obvious texture. It gives a light impression and has a warm, light-beige coloration. In addition, we make the decor in a matte finish.” Close Cooperation Leads to Exceptional Results The architects were there for the installation of the TechniStone® elements. "I really have to praise the professional work of the craftsmen I met on this project. Even when the stonemasons were measuring and laying out the kitchen, they showed exceptional skill. If I had to highlight one thing that sticks out in my mind this project, it would be our collaboration with the craftsmen. I was incredibly lucky with them. Most of the time, when my colleagues and I were thinking out loud about what we would like to see where, they immediately looked for solutions to make our ideas a reality. We all lived and breathed this reconstruction project together. We enjoyed the work immensely and thanks to our meetings on the construction site and our close cooperation, we created some amazing things," concludes Vojtěch Hybler.

The Lusail Sports ComplexThe Lusail sports arena combines daring design and innovative architecture with a welcoming atmosphere for athletes and sports fans. The inspiration for construction of this multi-use sports complex was the holding of the world championship in the sport of men’s handball in Qatar in 2015. The arena, which can hold more than 15,000 fans, has hosted many tournaments, primarily in handball, basketball, and volleyball, since then. Of course, many big concerts have been held here as well, including a concert by the popular singer from India, Arjit Singh. The arena is looking forward to hosting some major sporting events in the future. In 2027, many games of the FIBA world championship in basketball will take place here, including the tournament’s final round. The Inspiration and Philosophy of the DesignThe design for the arena originated in the studios of Cox Architects under the leadership of Alastair Richardson, a famous name in the field of sports architecture. Alastair has designed many sports stadiums during his career, especially in his native Australia. His work has been awarded many national and international prizes for excellence in architecture and professionalism.The creation of the Lusail arena was inspired by the cultural treasures of Qatar. The arena space is dominated by an enormous open dome, recalling a characteristic of traditional Islamic architecture. The central dome is surrounded by organic, free-flowing halls that refer to the natural elements typical of Qatar and resemble a giant seashell. The colors used on the outer glass of the shell match those of the sea, pearls, and desert sand. These features are harmonious and visually interesting, but they also have a functional importance, because they facilitate the transmission of sound and light, which is essential for sporting and cultural events.The Arrangement of the HallsThe arena is part of a large area that contains three main buildings together with a tree-filled park, walking and running paths, and roads and parking for vehicles. The first building, known as the “multi-purpose hall,” is the central element of the complex. It covers an area of approximately 50 hectares and has, in addition to the main arena, a pair of training halls and exclusive VIP areas. It also houses other facilities and amenities for athletes, staff, and spectators.The Lusail multi-purpose hall is connected to two additional buildings. Building 2, known as the "Cooling Tower Building," is equipped with a comprehensive air conditioning and ventilation system, refrigeration equipment, and fresh air treatment facilities with heat recovery systems. The third building, the "Microwave Tower." serves as the main media center for the complex.Sustainable ArchitectureThe extensive use of glass on the façade of the building allows natural light to penetrate into the interior, but it also integrates an advanced air conditioning system with natural ventilation supplied through 1,500 small windows located in the building’s outer glass shell. At higher levels, the panels are opaque. At lower levels, the glass panels are larger and transparent, and at the ground level they transition into solid walls.LED lights are built into the joints between the panels to highlight the complex geometry of the façade at night. Photovoltaic collectors have been installed to provide a source of renewable energy. The designers’ ideas for improving the comfort of visitors while at the same time reducing the buildings’ impact on the environment won recognition in 2014 in the form of the Global Sustainability Assessment System’s Design Sustainability Award.Beautiful and Reliable MaterialsTechniStone® was used in several areas of the arena, from the flooring in the main hall to the restaurant and rest areas. The application of the TechniStone elements follows the geometry of the building's design, using light-colored tiles streaked with irregular grey veining. We invite you to see the successful reconstruction of a 1950s townhouse located in Prague, Czech Republic. Thanks to the sensitive approach taken by the owners and architects, the typical post-war architecture of the house has been transformed into a pleasant contemporary home in which the layout of the interior and the garden is perfectly coordinated.The project aimed to highlight the well-preserved original character of the house and create an oasis of peace for the owners' family. Opening up the kitchen to the living room and linking them both to the terrace in the garden were key to creating a space with such an airy feel. The soul of the project is found in the preservation or replication of the original elements of the structure, from the elegant proportions of the house to the curved balustrades and the original petrol-green paint used on its windows. The owners decided to use this rich color to accent the kitchen as well, where green cabinets give the room a boost of energy.TechniStone® material showcases everlasting beauty in its timeless design.Because the design was bold, yet meant to last, the architects insisted on high-quality, durable materials. TechniStone® engineered stone was used in several places in playful combinations of several different decors. Wrocław – on the top floor of one of the modern buildings, an apartment was created that impresses not only with its location but above all with its interior design. The 68 m² apartment underwent a complete transformation, becoming an example of how a coherent concept and attention to detail can create a space full of harmony and light.A Space Open to the SunLarge glazing makes the interior bright and filled with natural light. The river view enhances the sense of spaciousness and gives the apartment a unique character. The functional layout includes a living room with a kitchenette, a bedroom, a home office, a hallway and two bathrooms – every square meter was designed with the residents’ comfort in mind.Color Palette and MaterialsThe design is based on warm, light tones – from creamy white to subtle shades of taupe. Cohesive built-in furniture gives the interior a unified character, while the recurring use of wood in a warm tone and woven elements appears throughout all rooms. Wooden flooring and stone further emphasize the natural atmosphere of the apartment.Repeating DetailsThe interior stands out thanks to the consistent use of curves and arches. These can be seen already at the entrance in the console suspended on a mirrored wall corner, as well as in the tiled rug in the vestibule and kitchen. The composition is completed with contrasting accents in creamy white and black, which add definition and character to the arrangement.A Kitchen with CharacterThe countertop in a warm tone was connected with the backsplash by means of a plinth, allowing for precise tile installation and a cohesive combination of materials. The countertop is made of Technistone quartz composite in the color Crystal Royal, featuring a neutral, warm beige-cream shade with a subtle structure that does not dominate visually while adding softness and coziness to the interior. A flush-mounted induction hob and an undermount sink help maintain cleanliness. Beige plinths and wall cabinets give the space a light appearance, while a display cabinet with ornamental glass complements the peninsula. From the living room side, a bar with ornamental glass appears, creating an elegant composition. The whole is completed with wicker lamps and a roller blind.Living Room with a River ViewThe most important element of the living room is the view of mature trees and the river, which is enhanced by deliberately placed mirrors. The terrace serves as a natural extension of the living area. Subtle colors combined with wood create a harmonious whole. The TV cabinet continues the furniture motif used throughout the apartment – a wooden frame, woven elements and delicate black knobs. Symmetrical wall lamps and a shelf provide space for travel souvenirs.Bedroom and BathroomsThe minimalist bedroom, with its thin wall slats and subtle wall lamps, refers to the japandi style. In the bathroom, tiles imitating natural stone were used – when illuminated, they create an almost theatrical effect. The second, smaller bathroom functions as a toilet, laundry room and utility space, demonstrating a practical use of the available area.Home OfficeThe home office was designed in a calm tone, consistent with the rest of the apartment. A bookcase with partially concealed fronts and a wardrobe with a wood-effect корпус and wooden handles create a functional and aesthetic workspace.SummaryThe apartment’s transformation shows that a well-thought-out design can completely change the character of a space. Thanks to consistent colors, natural materials and repeating details, the interior has gained harmony, lightness and a timeless style. Large glazing opens the apartment to light and the river view, while functional solutions – from the kitchen to the bathrooms – make it comfortable for everyday use. The café is proof that when you combine a compelling backstory, hard work, and a well-thought-out interior, you get a place to which people love to return time after time.Dominika Onofrejová has been fulfilling her dream since 2024 in a minimalist but cozy interior designed by Michal Letko’s MENO! architectural studio.The interior of Dominika’s café reflects the history of the space, where her family had been producing office furniture since 1994. A refurbished lathe has been preserved in a place of honor in the space even today. Dominika also needed functional furnishings and quality materials that would stand the test of time and hold up under the constant flow of eager customers.Engineered stone from Technistone was the ideal material for the café’s main feature — an attractive sales counter that is the part of the café with the greatest need for utility. Technistone’s Noble Concrete Grey decor was chosen for its color, which visually pulls the colors of the various interior elements of the café together. The original idea of using black stone had to be abandoned because of the large size of the bar — Noble Concrete Grey brings lightness and harmony to the space.“Our heart belongs to the kolaches that we display behind the glass. I didn’t want the bar to be too heavy and oppressive. The choice of grey was intuitive — it goes well with the black accents, wooden elements, and light pink accessories in the café, and adds a bit of elegance,” says Dominika.TechniStone was chosen for its look, but also for its technical qualities — it is highly resistant to staining, scratches, and everyday use. The island of Ischia doesn’t just offer more than 100 hot springs and a rich history, it also has narrow streets filled with cafés, bars, and bistros. How better to enjoy the unique atmosphere of southern Italy than to make an early-morning visit to the Mezzo Chilo Bakery and in the evening sit down in the heart of the port of Ischia at the MEDORA Bistro and Lounge Bar?Both of these interior spaces are linked by the name of the Italian-born architect Francesco Ambrosino, who founded his studio in 2014. A new corporate culture supported by a new company headquarters situated on the outskirts of Prague? So began an era of innovation that opened up new possibilities for the Czech Republic’s ČSOB Bank in 2003. ČSOB’s need for a modern headquarters was the driving force for a change that brought with it a favorable climate for communication and teamwork and eliminated the necessity of shared offices.“Banks traditionally build imposing headquarters that suggest wealth and extravagance,” says the well-known Czech architect Josef Pleskot. “I never wanted to be part of that,” he adds. “But any large, important office building sets an example for similar firms by its location and concept,” says Pleskot, who sensitively integrated the new headquarters for the bank into a valley in the Radlice area of Prague.The bank didn’t primarily seek to build a building that expressed exclusivity, but rather wanted to pragmatically consolidate the activities of its 2400 employees in one place and reduce the expense of renting premises for them. Taking a new approach to the working environment, Pleskot created an environmentally friendly building with a number of details that are both natural and impressive, where the emphasis was on the long-term sustainability and quality of the materials used. Another important consideration of the investment plan was respect for the ecology of the area. The energy self-sufficiency of the building was also important and has led to its being honored with many awards, including the internationally recognized LEED gold certificate.In the first phase of the project for the bank’s headquarters the architectural team at AP ATELIER used large-format slabs of TechniStone® in Gobi Grey for the entry hall, corridors, and central atrium of the building.The subtle grey design of Gobi Grey brings a light, informal, natural, and harmonious feel to a space. In the ČSOB building, it contributes a dignified, understated element to the architectural whole — functioning as the background for both everyday activities and special occasions. Gobi Grey looks natural even in large-format applications and the technical precision of its installation supports the character of the ČSOB building as a place where form follows function.In 2013 the bank announced its intention to expand its headquarters and move the rest of its employees to Radlice. In the second phase of the project (completed in 2019), the bank created new service areas, including a large employee cafeteria.The designers of the new building’s interior were Chalupa Architekti, who maintained thematic and material continuity with the original building. They chose to use the Elegance Eco Nev design for the serving line of the cafeteria. That light, practical design has a fine-grained texture and a neutral tone. It stays clean and tidy-looking even under conditions of heavy use. The contrast with the walls clad in hexagonal tiles creates a rhythmic but still harmonious space.Both designs Gobi Grey and Elegance Eco Nev reflect the same aesthetic: a combination of a neutral colors, high technical quality, and a timeless look.A TechniStone® surface resists mechanical wear, is easily maintained, and thanks to its dense structure and colorfastness, is suitable for use in the most heavily trafficked areas. The ČSOB project is an example of architecture that will stand the test of time, and that applies to its material components as well.

This reconstruction of an apartment built in Prague’s Bubeneč neighborhood between the two world wars is a masterwork thanks to its layout, its love for English interior design, and its wealth of beautiful details. Come with us to take a look at the flat, which faithfully reflects the owner’s taste and personality and where you can see a work of art wherever you turn.The first thing you notice in this spacious apartment, which is located one of Prague’s classic buildings, is the close cooperation of its talented interior designer with the owner of the flat. In her brief to the designer, the owner expressed her wish to incorporate her extensive collection of artworks and several historic pieces of furniture, including her piano. She indicated the placement of individual paintings and prints quite specifically and her art collection had a big influence on the ultimate concept for the interior. For example, the dark blue color of the kitchen and bookshelves provides a contrast with the oldest piece of art in the owner’s collection, which was kept in its original, historic frame and placed in the kitchen.Moreover, the owner wanted to infuse the entire apartment with the spirit of classic English interiors. Her vision is apparent in the choice of tall wainscoting, brass knobs instead of the usual doorhandles, and hand-painted furniture.Besides those details, nothing was spared in terms of materials. The original wooden windows were refurbished, while the doors in the apartment were replaced with faithful replicas of the original First Republic doors. Oak parquet and tiling in a geometric pattern cover the floors. These solid, beautiful materials are complemented by highly durable TechniStone® engineered stone, which was used on the countertop and backsplash in the kitchen and around the washbasin in the bathroom. The subtle veining of Technistone’s Noble Carrara decor enhances the fusion of materials, styles, and colors. The history of the apartment is reflected in its embrace of the concept of “enfilade,” that is, in the sight-lines of the long corridor that transects the apartment from the bay window in the bedroom to the window over the bathtub in the bathroom. This light-filled hall provides space for all of the apartment’s practical facilities, from a coat closet to a storage space for cleaning products and equipment that is hidden behind sliding doors. It also provides access to the bathroom from the guest bedroom and facilitates movement throughout the whole apartment.

Prague’s O2 Arena celebrated its twentieth year of existence. In 2001, Aleš Hušák, the director of the Czech company Sazka, wanted to quickly build a new arena in Prague for ice hockey, a sport that is beloved by Czech fans. He succeeded. The world championship in ice hockey was held in the O2 Arena from May 10 to 26, 2004, and the Czech team won gold.Not only was the time it took to construct the arena remarkably short, the unique high-tech look of the arena won it the prestigious Building of the Year prize. The most striking element of the arena’s design is its silvery aluminum wall cladding that evokes the feel of an ice palace. The spherical canopy that forms the roof received awards from the Czech Chamber of Engineers, the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic, and the European Steel Design Award. The six-story arena is designed for people to spend time there even outside of the main events. It features shops, restaurants, and areas for press conferences, seminars, and congresses. How to design a place where parents of children suffering from serious illness can find more than just a roof over their heads? That’s the Ronald McDonald House in Warsaw. It’s a building that has been thought out to the last detail in order to create an environment that’s quiet, safe, and comfortable.The Ronald McDonald Foundation, whose mission is helping parents of children with serious, long-term illnesses, built its second house in Poland on the premises of Warsaw’s Medical University in 2021. It’s amazing that Ronald McDonald House Charities is now established in more than 45 countries around the world and is operating nearly 400 Ronald McDonald Houses.The architectural design of the house, by AFP Architekci (Tomasz Flejterski and Alicja Szojda) emphasizes a modern aesthetic coupled with the functionality required by its residents. Covering an area of 2,100 square meters on three floors, the house has 25 efficiency apartments with their own bathrooms and thoughtfully equipped common areas that include a kitchen, dining room, laundry room, library, and relaxation area. The overall concept results in a home-like atmosphere where families can feel comfortable and safe.A Timeless Interior: Natural Materials and the Elegance of TechniStone® in Noble Concrete GreyThe interior of the house is planned so as to provide the greatest possible visual harmony and a calm, pleasant atmosphere for families who are dealing with a very difficult time in their lives. The objective was to find a solution that would be timeless, functional, and pleasing to the eye. Final installation was performed by the professional stonemasons at Kamieniarstwo-ABC, who used their experience with fabricating Technistone slabs to ensure precision installation in accord with the demanding standards of the project. The Ronald McDonald House in Warsaw has achieved fame not only because of its mission, but also for its architectural qualities. Among the prizes it has won are Building of the Year for 2021 in the residential architecture category, the People’s Award for 2021, and the Mayor of Warsaw’s Prize. This project is proof that design can have a deeper meaning — not only pleasing the eye, but above all contributing to better quality of life for those who need it the most.

Seven hundred square meters of Starlight Black? The use of the iconic Technistone product in an unexpectedly large area may surprise you.The Atrium Flora shopping mall in Prague is a four-story building with 120 shops and a total floor area of 21,000 m². The mall has rooftop parking for 800 vehicles, a number of restaurants, and stores belonging to various local and international chains. The investor’s aim was to create a modern center not only for shopping, but also for enjoying free time. Part of that was building the Cinema City multiplex cinema, which opened to the public with the rest of the shopping center in 2003.When the cinema was redesigned in 2018, the goal was to unify the entrance and access areas into one functional and visually attractive whole. Using TechniStone® engineered stone allowed the cinema’s owners to upgrade the aesthetics of the space and deal with the demands posed by its heavy daily use.  In all, 700 m² of TechniStone® in Starlight Black and 100 m² of Starlight Ruby were used to pave the cinema’s floors. Both color variants were installed in the foyer and adjacent corridors. The black surface of Starlight Black in a polished finish reflects the ceiling lights and creates an elegant contrast with the deep red of Starlight Ruby, which brightens the space and helps visitors find their way around the theater.TechniStone® is based in natural minerals. Allow us to present you with an airy mezzanine apartment in Prague, which combines the contemporary aesthetic of clean lines with classic details. Its owners owe this project’s great result to the synergy of the architect’s talent and the precision craftsmanship of the carpenters and stonemasons.This large, split-level apartment was created in the unused attic space of an older apartment building in Prague’s charming Vinohrady district. You can see all the way to Prague Castle from its windows!The assignment was to create a family-friendly space with a kitchen and a large island at its center where people can meet and spend time together. Its furnishings had to be tasteful and imaginative, but above all, practical. For that reason, the architect chose a countertop made with TechniStone® as the centerpiece of the kitchen.TechniStone® offers excellent quality, especially with its durability and non-porous surface. It is also highly valued for its ease of maintenance and its great resistance to scratches and the growth of bacteria.Technistone's Noble Ivory White decor coordinates perfectly with the light shades of the kitchen's color scheme. The light colors brighten up the space under the roof and provide contrast for the dark-stained wood and dark accessories the architects used to highlight certain elements. In addition to the kitchen, which is at the center of the main living space, the staircase leading to the upper floor is also dark brown. It has plenty of storage space while still maintaining a timeless, minimalist style. Its clean lines are complemented by classic elements such as coffered wall paneling and frames around the kitchen cabinet doors.Attention to detail is the key to the extraordinarily aesthetic impression the apartment makes. The impeccable execution of the joints in the engineered stone on the kitchen island is evidence of that. The architects like to come up with something new for every project, so they used TechniStone® for the shelves in the kitchen and over the bar in the dining room.
