OVERVIEW
The National Assembly Building for Wales and its unique curved wood ceilings throughout, is one of the most recognisable buildings in the UK and a landmark project in the use of timber ceiling systems by BCL. The building has gained worldwide recognition, culminating in the project being shortlisted for The Stirling Prize in 2006. BCL’s team designed wood panels in a layout that allowed the complete acoustic ceiling, totalling over 3,000 sqm, to be created using only 35 different slatted panel shapes, 99% of which could be flat packed and create the curved wood on site, helping to keep logistical costs to a minimum and maximise the speed of installation.
