The Octagon - DPM Acoustic Underlay - Impact Sound Reduction

OVERVIEW

When delivering The Octagon, the world’s first pure octagonal high-rise residential building, the project required an acoustic flooring system capable of combining damp proofing, acoustic isolation and installation efficiency across 49 storeys.

Working alongside high-rise specialist Midgard, CMS Danskin Acoustics supplied a complete REGUPOL system comprising REGUPOL barrier 99-201 moisture vapour suppressant, REGUPOL adhesive 43-105 and REGUPOL sonus multi 3 acoustic underlay. The system was derived to meet the acoustic requirements of this landmark Build-to-Rent development while supporting the practical demands of a large-scale residential fit-out.

This approach provided a fast-drying, low VOC flooring solution that delivered damp proofing and impact sound control as part of a coordinated installation system across the building.

The Octagon is a 49-storey Build-to-Rent residential tower, requiring a flooring system capable of delivering consistent acoustic and

moisture control performance at scale.

Primary risks included:

  • Transmission of impact sound between residential

units

  • Moisture affecting floor finishes across multiple

storeys

  • Programme delays due to complex multi-layer

installations

  • Maintaining consistent performance across a high-rise

structure

A solution was needed that could:

  • Deliver reliable impact sound reduction across all floors
  • Provide effective moisture vapour suppression
  • Support fast-track installation across 49 storeys
  • Integrate efficiently within standard flooring build-ups

THE SOLUTION

CMS Danskin Acoustics supplied a complete REGUPOL flooring system to deliver both moisture control and acoustic performance.

By combining moisture suppression and acoustic isolation within a coordinated system, the solution simplified installation while ensuring consistent performance across all residential units.

THE RESULT

Following installation across all 49 storeys, the REGUPOL system

delivered consistent acoustic and moisture control performance

throughout the development.

The use of REGUPOL barrier 99-201 provided a reliable moisture

vapour suppressant, protecting floor finishes and enabling efficient

progression of follow-on trades.

Combined with REGUPOL sonus multi 3, the system achieved effective impact sound reduction while maintaining a streamlined installation process across multiple floors.

The coordinated system approach improved installation efficiency and ensured consistent performance, supporting delivery of a high-quality residential environment at scale.
