OVERVIEW
Twinfix Enhances Accessibility with a Bespoke Canopy for a New Modular Healthcare Facility
Twinfix recently completed the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke free-standing mono-pitch canopy with integrated vertical glazing at St Mary's Hospital, Isle of Wight. Designed to connect the hospital's existing building with a new modular healthcare facility, the canopy provides a covered, accessible route for patients, staff and visitors throughout the year.
The project forms part of the hospital's continued investment in modern healthcare infrastructure. Requiring a solution that balanced functionality, durability and aesthetics, the new modular building benefited from a bespoke canopy system that enhances weather protection, improves accessibility and complements the clean, contemporary appearance of the development.
Twinfix's Role in Improving Accessibility and Weather Protection
Twinfix supplied and installed a free-standing mono-pitch canopy featuring integrated vertical polycarbonate glazing to create a sheltered link between the existing hospital building and the new modular facility.
Manufactured in-house at Twinfix's UK production facility, the canopy was designed to provide reliable protection from the elements while maintaining a bright and welcoming environment. The addition of vertical glazing helps reduce exposure to wind and rain, creating a more comfortable route for patients, visitors and healthcare staff moving between buildings.
The contemporary aluminium framework and translucent glazing panels complement the modern architectural appearance of the modular building while providing a durable, low-maintenance solution suitable for a busy healthcare environment.
Project Overview
Healthcare facilities require practical external structures that support safe and accessible movement around site while standing up to the demands of daily use.
Working closely with the project team, Twinfix delivered a bespoke canopy solution tailored to the requirements of the new modular building. The free-standing design provides flexibility in installation while avoiding reliance on the building façade for structural support.
The mono-pitch roof offers effective rainwater management, while the integrated vertical glazing enhances user comfort and helps define the pedestrian route between buildings. Together, these elements create a functional covered walkway that supports the efficient operation of the healthcare facility.
Outcome
The completed canopy installation provides a safe, sheltered and visually cohesive connection between the existing hospital and the new modular healthcare building.
By combining weather protection, natural daylight and contemporary design, the structure improves accessibility for patients, staff and visitors while contributing positively to the overall appearance of the development. The project demonstrates Twinfix's ability to deliver bespoke canopy and glazing solutions that support modern healthcare environments and modular construction projects.
