Paddington Central - REGUPOL Vibration 300 - Structural Isolation

OVERVIEW

Paddington Central sits directly above one of London’s most significant transport upgrades, with Crossrail infrastructure running beneath the development footprint. The project required a structural isolation solution capable of protecting an eight-metre-high

concrete podium deck from continuous train-induced ground-borne vibration.

At 4,200m², the scale of the deck and the load demands of a mixed-use commercial development required an isolation system that could combine high load-bearing performance with proven vibration mitigation.

Working alongside Byrne Bros (Formwork) and acoustic consultant Rupert Taylor,

CMS Danskin specified REGUPOL RAV 100 (now vibration 300) as a heavy-duty slab isolation system. The solution was engineered to protect the structural integrity of the podium while maintaining programme certainty during concurrent Crossrail works.

The site was located directly above new Crossrail

infrastructure, creating a significant risk of ground-borne vibration transferring into the podium structure.

Primary risks included:

Transmission of train-generated vibration into the

building structure.

Structure-borne noise affecting commercial and

residential occupiers

Long-term damage to concrete foundations

Integration of isolation into a large 4,200m² podium deck

Additional complexity included installation above active transport infrastructure, strict programme requirements aligned with Crossrail construction phases and high structural load requirements

A solution was needed that could:

Deliver high-performance structural isolation

Support heavy load conditions up to 5000kg/m²

Install quickly to maintain programme deadlines

Perform reliably in a dense urban infrastructure environment

THE SOLUTION

CMS Danskin specified REGUPOL RAV 100 (now vibration 300) as the structural slab isolation system.

REGUPOL RAV 100 (now vibration 300) was selected for its ability to combine high load-bearing performance with effective vibration isolation.

Due to the critical programme constraints, speed of installation was essential. The roll format allowed efficient placement across the podium deck, enabling the works to proceed in alignment with surrounding Crossrail construction activities.

The system was independently tested by the Institute of Structural Dynamics at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, providing verified performance assurance.

THE RESULT

Following installation beneath the podium deck, REGUPOL RAV 100 (now vibration 300) provided structural isolation protection from train-generated ground-borne vibrations.

The system delivered:

• Effective vibration mitigation beneath a major transport corridor

• Structural protection for the concrete foundations

• High load performance under commercial development conditions

• Efficient installation across a large 4,200m² area

The adaptability and proven load-bearing capacity of REGUPOL RAV 100 (now vibration 300) ensured the successful isolation of the podium deck within a highly constrained urban infrastructure environment.
