8 Bishopsgate, London - Wood Ceilings

Number 8 Bishopsgate, the new prestigious 50-storey office development in the heart of the City of London, and the tallest building in the UK to be awarded a BREEAM rating of ‘Outstanding’, uses BCL’s panel systems to create a beautiful wood ceiling as its centrepiece. The project also includes the tallest free viewing platform in Europe, ‘The Lookout’, from which the City’s landmarks can be viewed – and is a perfect example of the efficiency benefits a BCL system, for large areas with complex coordination and services integration.

The entrance lobby ceiling is a beautiful architectural feature, designed by Wilkinson Eyre and consists of acoustic timber panels, made from finger jointed FSC Sweet Chestnut slats, then pressure impregnated for fire retardancy and fully tested and classified in a UKAS laboratory to Class B-s2,d0 in full accordance with EN13501-1. The wooden slatted ceiling panels are laid in overlapping intersecting planes, creating a dynamic and elegant effect, which integrates both lighting and services within the design. A mock-up was section was also made at BCL offices in order to ensure that the entire team were satisfied with the way that the panels would be lit and all areas fully designed in Revit to BIM Level 4 to ensure the most modern and efficient delivery for the end clients.
