Gas Two Tier Cycle Rack

The Gas Assisted Two Tier Cycle Rack is a high-density, user-friendly cycle parking solution designed for commercial, residential, and public sector developments where maximising the number of cycle spaces within a constrained footprint is a primary specification requirement. As part of BSC's two tier bike racks and shelters range, it delivers the same doubling of storage capacity as a standard two tier rack, stacking bicycles across two vertical levels within the same floor area, while removing the physical effort of upper tier loading through tamper-proof gas strut assistance.

Gas-Assisted Upper Tier

The defining feature of the Gas Assisted Two Tier Cycle Rack is its pneumatically assisted upper tier mechanism. Tamper-proof gas struts enable the upper tier to be lowered and raised with smooth, controlled movement and minimal physical effort, making upper tier loading and unloading accessible to a significantly wider range of users than a counterbalanced or manual system. This is a particularly important specification consideration for developments where the user base includes less physically able cyclists, older commuters, or anyone storing heavier bicycles, including e-bikes. Heavy-duty welded locking hoops on both tiers secure the bicycle frame and wheels, providing robust theft resistance across the full rack.

Construction and Dimensions

The rack is manufactured from hot-dipped galvanised steel to BS EN ISO 1461:2022, providing long-term corrosion resistance for both indoor and outdoor installation environments. A polyester powder-coated finish in any RAL colour is available, allowing the rack to be integrated with the architectural palette of the surrounding cycle store or shelter. Standard spacing is 375mm centres on single-sided installations and 400mm centres on double-sided layouts. A minimum installation height of 2500mm is required, with 2400mm accommodatable where headroom is constrained, making the rack suitable for basement car parks, undercroft areas, and covered cycle stores where ceiling height may be a limiting factor.

Sheffield Cycle Stands are supplied as standard on the lower tier, providing enhanced compatibility for wider-tyred bicycles and e-bike storage alongside standard bikes. The rack is designed for cycles with tyres up to 64mm in width, and lower channel options are available as an upgrade for specific project requirements.

Modular and Scalable

The Gas Assisted Two Tier Cycle Rack is modular in format, allowing the system to be scaled to any capacity requirement and expanded in phases as demand grows. It can be specified as a standalone rack within any existing shelter structure, or integrated into a purpose-built two tier bike shelter from BSC's range, including the 20 Space Amazon Eco Two Tier Cycle Shelter and Premium Amazon Two Tier Cycle Shelter — to create a fully integrated, covered cycle facility.

Secured by Design Option

A Secured by Design variant is available, offering Sold Secure Silver accreditation and Police Preferred Specification status for projects where independently certified cycle storage security is a named requirement. This variant is available with a choice of V1 or V2 CHS handle configurations on the gas-assisted upper tier to suit user preference and project specification.

Specifier Support

CAD drawings, dimensional layouts, and technical specifications are available on request to support planning submissions, transport assessments, and contractor planning.
