A 330m² automotive showroom refurbishment in Newcastle-upon-Tyne required the removal of existing carpet and ceramic tile finishes to create a clean, durable surface suitable for a modern retail environment. Mechanical preparation was carried out using diamond grinding to expose a sound, level substrate ready to receive new flooring systems.

A styrene acrylate dispersion primer was applied to regulate substrate porosity, improve adhesion and minimise pinholing in subsequent layers. The product was suitable for application across large areas and provided a consistent base for the levelling system.

A fibre-reinforced levelling compound was then pump-applied at a thickness of approximately 8–10mm. The material offered excellent flow and smoothing characteristics, enabling efficient installation across the full floor area while delivering a high-quality, uniform finish. It is designed for refurbishment of existing floors as well as floating floor constructions, and is compatible with underfloor heating systems, supporting durability and long-term performance.

The system supported an accelerated programme, allowing foot traffic after approximately 2–4 hours and readiness to receive floor finishes within 12–24 hours, depending on site conditions. This enabled rapid progression to the final floor installation stage.

Prior to installing the final finish, a multi-purpose priming solution was applied to ensure optimal adhesion. Large format porcelain tiles were then fixed using a flexible, polymer-modified adhesive capable of accommodating minor movement within the substrate, including areas influenced by thermal variation or heated floor constructions.

The completed installation provides a durable, visually consistent floor suitable for a high-traffic showroom environment. The combination of effective substrate preparation, pump-applied levelling technology and compatible fixing systems delivered both programme efficiency and a high standard of finish.
