Theatre Seating: Royal Opera House, Linbury Theatre

OVERVIEW

Race Furniture won the contract to design, manufacture, deliver and install over 400 seats into the newly refurbished Linbury Theatre.

We worked closely with the Architect Stanton Williams and theatre consultants Charcoal Blue together with the contractor Rise ensuring the correct design and layout of the seating.

The product specified was a customised version of Race’s Tempest seat, a versatile theatre seating system that allows the designer to customise its appearance to suit the unique demands of each space. Whilst maintaining the overall design of the seats, there were a variety of permutations that included floor fixed, removable, riser mounted, higher/taller seats and seating adapted for a retractable platform.

This forms part of the Royal Opera House’s ‘Open Up’ project, a £50.7m refurbishment. The principal objective was to transform the public’s experience of the Royal Opera House at its Covent Garden home, making the building a more welcome space.
