Theatre Seating: Georgian Theatre Royal, Richmond, North Yorkshire

OVERVIEW

Race were delighted to be appointed as the seating supplier for the recent refurbishment of Britain's most complete Georgian playhouse, the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Our primary aim was to be sympathetic to the original qualities and features of the Georgian three-tier, courtyard-style auditorium while providing a more comfortable and stylish seat. We created bespoke benches and loose seating for the theatre, in a rich green leather with gold embroidered seat numbers.

This project was the first to benefit from our brand new partnership with visualisation specialist, Preevue. A 3D model was created of the venue which we then added our 3D seat renders into, allowing the client to see exactly what their new venue and seating would look like, and make instant decisions while working remotely - a huge benefit considering this project was completed during the national lockdown!

The CEO of the theatre, Clare Allen, said of her experience working with us: "One of our biggest challenges was to find a partner who could present a solution that would not only be comfortable but also sympathetic to the building’s world-famous heritage... Race Furniture rose admirably to that challenge. From the initial design concepts to the final installation of the benches and chairs, the team have worked hard to produce seating that looks and – very importantly – feels fabulous. The quality of the finished product is also excellent! It is also admirable that the project ran to schedule – crucial when working alongside a busy construction team. We were kept up-to-date with developments and supplied with regular images and descriptions of the various processes. Any unforeseen elements that cropped up as the project unfurled were resolved swiftly and imaginatively. Good communication – evident at all levels of the company – has been greatly appreciated."
