One of the biggest urban regeneration projects started with Science Central, The Core overlooking Newcastle upon Tyne. The award-winning seven storey building provides spaces for events and business networking alongside office space for companies working on a range of future-oriented urban challenges. Being the first step towards Newcastle Science City, The Core has been co-developed by Newcastle University and the local council. The building has been designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a four-storey living wall, bee hotels, planted sedum roofs, rainwater harvesting and energy efficient lighting.
