Nightingale Birmingham Hospital

OVERVIEW

The 175,000 sqm NEC venue in Birmingham was converted into a temporary 4,000 bed emergency hospital for Covid-19 patients. The hospital was officially opened by the Duke of Cambridge on the 16th April. The initial phase deadline was met in just 13 days and handed over on the 10th April 2020. The hospital was initially able to hold 496 beds divided into four wards with the potential to be immediately increased to 800 if necessary. WorkSpace Design supplied a range of different RapidWard products including handwash stations, cabinets, worktops, HTM storage units to name a few. This unprecedented project required agile thinking and dedication from all the teams that were involved. The critical nature of the project strengthened collaboration between the project partners, allowing us to ensure we met and addressed the evolving needs of the project.
