Accoya® chosen for outdoor velodrome

OVERVIEW

Designed by Sander Douma Architects, Accoya was selected for the creation of an outdoor 200m cycle track in The Netherlands. Accoya was specified as the most efficient material for both internal & external applications. Accoya was chosen due to its unique modification process. By using Accoya the cycle track has fewer seams than a standard velodrome, meaning cyclists will benefit from less resistance & fewer losses in speed. Over 40KM of untreated Accoya sections were applied, using 6cm wide beams which were prefabricated. A liquid rubber coating was then applied which formed the desired watertight connection of the final structure.
