10 Bank Street

Eventually, 10 Bank Street will be the address of a new tower development in the heart of Canary Wharf. However, construction is scheduled over a long period of time. There is a planned two-year gap between the completion of the foundation pit and the next stages of construction. 

The best way to visualise this is if you have seen the square recessed pools at the Twin Towers site in New York. At 10 Bank Street it was decided to save the foundation pit from being an eyesore by scaffolding over it and installing a 4,500m2 temporary pop-up park at street level!

Due to the temporary nature of this pop-up park the brief was a tough one. The street furniture had to be totally modular in design, easy to relocate and demonstrate vibrance. The Stapel raised planter edge was an ideal fit for this brief thanks to its simple, proven design.

Following client consultation, the Squared seating and Staple planter collection were selected to meet the demands of this project. Maintaining the contemporary aesthetic and having fully modular components was not the only reason behind these selections.

Firstly, the ease of construction meant the design could be configured in numerous different ways to build the various elements. Secondly, the steel base and leg structures are an ideal platform to introduce various colours into the landscape and maintain the vibrant aesthetic of the park.
