One New Change features SAS International bespoke metal ceiling panels with an expanded metal mesh, finished in silver, red and black. The ground-breaking, bold and perceptive £300 million One New Change mixed-use development project won the MIPIM AR Future Project Award 2010. Now complete, the building has become known as the ‘Stealth Bomber’ after the radar-proof combat plane that inspired its faceted form and has also won a RIBA 2011 Award for London and LDSA Building Excellence Award. The design incorporates pedestrian arcades converging at the core of the building, reinstating a historic north-south pedestrian route and allowing new panoramas of London’s landmark St Paul’s Cathedral. SAS International supplied the ceiling solution for the retail corridors of the development with a concealed suspension system, working closely with the architects to create a result where no visible fixings can be seen through the ceiling plane. To complement this, bespoke metal ceiling panels were produced with an expanded metal mesh, finished in silver, red and black. A challenging material to work with, to ensure the mesh held a uniform shape and corners for the panels could be formed accurately, SAS International’s solution was to create a ‘picture frame’ behind each panel. This also helped to provide support for the concealed attachment bolts. Design challenges at One New Change included the building grid size and shape (it was termed the most difficult site in Europe), the complex geometry of the structure (including some tight ceiling to structural beam heights), and a shared fire strategy between retail and office storeys. Requirements to achieve an environmentally-friendly building, complying with Part L and BREEAM ratings, were also critical and the design uses a materials palette of limestone, metal, mirror and a new method of fritted glass on the exterior to help shield the interior from glare.

There is a saying that “Everything is Bigger in Texas,” and the Dallas, Texas police department is no exception. The city of Dallas is ranked in the top 10 cities in the U.S. in terms of population, at 1.2 million people. The Dallas Police Department is the ninth largest municipal police force in the U.S., based on 3,012 sworn officers. It is led by Chief of Police, U. Reneé Hall. Security a Concern When Designing HQ Building The department is located in the Jack Evans Police Headquarters building, which was built in 2003. It is 358,000 square feet, has six floors, is spread over a three-acre site, has a separate 1,200 car parking garage and a two-acre, open parking lot for additional visitor parking. Prior to 2003, the department was housed in the circa 1914 former City Hall Building. The Jack Evans Police Headquarters building was under construction when 9/11 terrorists flew airplanes into the World Trade Buildings in New York. That event was preceded by the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing in April 1995. Therefore, security was a concern in its design. Police officials worked with a Police Design Consultant – McClaren, Wilson, and Lawrie Architects of Phoenix – to help design the building to resist a terrorist attack and isolate potential hazards. The building also needed to control visitor traffic and access. On an average month, there are 5,000 public visitors to the Jack Evans building. In addition, shots fired at police buildings nationally are not uncommon, says Paul M. Schuster, Senior Corporal/Facilities Management for the Dallas Police Department. “For the most part they are random, single shot drive-by shootings. Often, the officers are unaware that the building has been shot at, until they find a bullet hole in the brick or glass. Increasingly, police tend to be a symbol of government and some citizens see that as a visible target to lash out at. Police officers are trained to expect the routine types of calls, such as domestic violence, traffic accidents, and other crimes. Yet they must be flexible to anticipate the non-routine that can be dangerous and change in a heartbeat.” An Active Shooter Incident Led to an Increase in Security On June 13, 2015, after midnight, a 35-year-old male placed a duffle bag with a remote-controlled bomb to detonate later between cars in the parking lot of the headquarters building. The suspect then began shooting continuously at the lobby windows. Officers responded to the scene, a vehicle chase began, and the incident ended outside the city. Luckily officers in the lobby took cover and were not injured. Following that incident, the Dallas Police Department conducted a security assessment of the building and also at seven patrol stations throughout the city. The assessment included testing various construction materials for bullet resistance to various types of weapons. Gensler Architects and Guidepost Solutions, LLC developed the solutions and plans. “Yesterday we were concerned about handguns, today we are worried about rifles, and the idea of terrorism is always present with outright attack or bombs,” Schuster notes. “The police officers and police staff only want a place that is safe and where they can do their good work.” Funding of $1.3 million was approved to upgrade the lobbies of the seven patrol stations to withstand rifle rounds, and $1.9 million to improve headquarters lobby security, and to upgrade an aging security system. Turner Construction Company and Convergint Technologies, LLC conducted the renovations and security technology integration. Challenges to the Security Design The headquarter’s lobby was initially designed as a two-story glass-walled structure, with an information desk and public records service windows. Visitors were allowed free entry into the lobby and were only screened in an open area to the side if going to other floors. “The challenge in upgrading lobby security was the two-story lobby entrance glass. “In addition, there were concerns about keeping an ‘open’ and friendly service concept in mind and ensuring that the lobby would not resemble a ‘fortress’,” Schuster notes. Screening Room with Security Revolving Doors to Contain Incidents The solution was to keep the existing exterior unchanged and focus on adding a layer of security once a person enters the lobby. Visitors now enter the headquarters and immediately proceed to a side room where security screening is conducted. A new secondary wall with bullet-rated glass and solid bullet resistant wall materials was constructed inside the lobby to channel visitors to the room. Once inside the screening room, which also has bullet resistant walls, the visitor has belongings x-rayed, and they walk through a metal detector. In the event that anyone was to produce a gun and begin shooting, the incident could be contained inside that room. Once a visitor has been cleared, they proceed into the main lobby via a Boon Edam Tourlock 180 security revolving door. This automatic, four-wing door is the most advanced, security revolving door in the Boon Edam product range that offers maximum throughput, allowing users to enter and leave the building simultaneously. In the event that a large number of persons try to force their way into the facility, the Tourlock 180+90 will determine that more than one person is trying to enter and will reject the person and lock out any others from entering. Once a visitor is ready to leave the lobby and exit the building, they pass through another Boon Edam Tourlock 180+90 that leads to a vestibule with exterior swinging doors. In the event that someone tries to go back into the lobby from the front vestibule area, without going through the security screening room, the Tourlock security revolving door will reject their entry.

Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, PA, is quite satisfied with the functioning and cost savings of their Boon Edam Tournex revolving door. The Tournex is an example of a classic automatic revolving door and is designed to handle high capacity applications. The historic building housing the Warwick Hotel Rittenhouse Square originally had a manual revolving door flush with the building’s facade. Somewhere along the way, it was decided to remove the relatively smaller gauge revolving door and replace the entrance with a double set of sliding doors. “Our HVAC system was designed for a revolving door entrance,” said Ray Hewitt, the hotel’s Director of Engineering, “we wanted to put a revolving door back in to address the negative pressure we were experiencing in the lobby.” That negative pressure was pulling in cold air during the winter months, and cooled, conditioned air was escaping out the double doors in the summer. During a complete lobby renovation project a few years back, designers worked to return to a revolving door lobby entrance. Because the Warwick is in a historic building, they could not change the facade of the building, so they pushed the entire entrance into the lobby itself. The architects and the designer chose a 12’ diameter Boon Edam Tournex automatic revolving door, with three door wings and a highly polished (mirror) stainless steel finish. The Boon Edam door is enclosed in a stylish glass cube, accented with purple neon lighting. Now, those entering the hotel first pass through a double set of sliding doors at the building envelope, leading to the revolving door. Swing doors are also available on either side of the revolving door to enter the lobby itself. The effect of the sliding doors and the revolving door in a cube is to virtually eliminate air flow from outside in, and vice versa. The Warwick has 301 hotel rooms and 106 permanent residents. On any given day, between guests, residents, staff, and visitors, up to 1000 people are passing through the entrance. Since the installation of the new entrance, the effect has been night and day—guest and visitors utilise the lobby space longer and in greater numbers. A big community table is usually filled all day long and the lobby is accented with attractive fireplaces. The hotel lobby also offers two full service food and beverage outlets (Bluestone Lane & Prime Rib Steakhouse), with a third to be announced sometime this year. In addition to a now grand sense of arrival and more useable, comfortable space, the new entrance is also paying dividends on energy savings. “With the old entrance, our HVAC was running constantly, it could not keep up. Now, the unit can shut down periodically; that’s good for the health of the system, and we’re seeing substantial savings on energy bills,” said Hewitt. The Boon Edam revolving door has an important feature for installations like a hotel or large office building—in the event of an emergency, the doors stop and the wings can be “book folded” to create wide open ingress and egress. The hotel has a maintenance contract with Advanced Door, but since installation the Boon Edam revolving door has been virtually trouble free.

The headquarters of the BNL-BNP Paribas Group building is a stunning example of how to successfully combine innovative architectural design with optimum comfort and wellbeing for the building’s occupants. Due to the clever structural glazing, the aesthetics are visually appealing, reflecting the building’s surroundings on all sides and changing its appearance depending on the time of day and the weather.

Rondo has worked alongside Lend Lease to build a stadium that will benefit Western Sydney’s sporting culture immensely. The stadium required continuous onsite reviews including the change of design by our technical team. Rondo’s Steel Stud and Track Wall Framing system was used for the external walls in addition to our Top Hats and Top Hat cleats.

Wellington Airport previously used warm hand dryers and paper towels. Their motivations for changing hand drying method were to find a more environmentally sustainable form of hand drying, also wanting to avoid the slip hazard that can result from water on the floor. Project Architect, Katherine Skipper explains "The Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry provided the perfect solution for the problems they were having with water on the floor and constant restocking of paper towels."

Designed by Tempus Design Studio, this project was the winner of the BDAQ Regional Design Awards 2019 – New Houses $750,001 – $1,000,000 Construction Cost. Breezway Louvre Windows are incorporated into the bedrooms, kitchen and alfresco area to offer a number of benefits to the homeowners including fresh air and wide open views out onto the natural surroundings. When closed, they offer protection from the elements so outdoor time can be enjoyed without the worry of the weather changing.

For instance, the guest room ensuite walls were mainly comprised of glazed aluminium panels made overseas. Unfortunately, this meant there were minimal tolerances in the set-out. Yet, because the hotel floors were generally the same layout, Rondo created a template system for setting out most of the guest rooms while also ensuring that ceiling heights were set exactly.

Rondo was able to provide a solution to suit the projects’ specific design criteria by using readily available materials and technical support. The wall framing for the MPS room consisted of over 31m of 150mm Steel Stud and Track, including noggings.

The Canberra Hospital features the following RBA products:RBA8851-137 in their recently completed Bariatric Ward rooms.Canberra Hospital is the major public medical establishment based in Australia’s Capital Territory, with 672 beds to cater for the territory’s population of 550,000. The Hospital provides services including acute inpatient and day services, outpatient services, women’s and children’s services, paediatrics and pathology. Canberra Hospital is also a hub for education and research, remaining as the main teaching hospital for the Australian National University Medical School and the University of Canberra’s Nursing School. Canberra Hospital additionally accommodates for Clinical Pastoral Care institutions based in Sydney. RBA was thrilled to participate on a project that could better the experiences of both a myriad of patients and students.Canberra Hospital reached out to RBA to provide for a number of brand new Bariatric Rooms and one “Super Bariatric Room” during a refurbishment of the hospital’s orthopaedics services. These amenities are essential to providing comfortable care for individuals struggling with the growing obesity crisis, the Super Bariatric Room catering to people weighing up to half a tonne. As a result, RBA had to supply high quality, heavy duty bariatric facilities, whilst keeping a homely character to make patients comfortable in the clinical environment. Read the news article from the Canberra Times RBA’s supplication of our Bariatric Toilet, or the RBA8851-137, pictured below was vital for the project. Made of Stainless Steel, the toilet can withstand loads of up to 910 kg with no measurable deflection and 2200 kg with no permanent damage, maintaining strong and secure for its intended usage. Furthermore, the 304-type, or “Food Grade” Stainless Steel is constructed with corrosion resistance and allows for optimal hygiene. The unit supplied to Canberra Hospital has an optional P or S Trap, coming in an Enviro-Glaze® White Finish, best suited for the setting. However, this unit is also offered Enviro-Glaze® White external finish and a Stainless Steel internal finish, or a Stainless Steel total finish. Moreover, the unit is water-saving, holding a 3 Star (6.0L FF/3.0L HF/3.6L AF) WELS rating. The unit can additionally be accompanied by RBA’s Big John Bariatric Toilet Seat, or the RBA8186-853.

European telecommunications operator, Tele2 were moving into new offices in Kista Science City - Stockholm as their headquarters. It had been decided that they were going in an Activity - Based Workplace direction, featuring large, open work areas where people could move freely throughout most of the building. From a security perspective, this work concept came with a few challenges. The Business Challenge Tele2 were moving into a new building with an “Open Office” design. The challenge was to create a transparent, inviting atmosphere while still maintaining a high level of security. Furthermore, an emergency exit was also required through the gates. Together with Tele2 and BAU architects, Boon Edam started sketching and researching, to find the perfect solution for the main entrance to the building. The original plan to make the building as open as possible, changed slightly to accommodate important security needs, both around the entrance and throughout the whole building itself.

The Uni of Queensland Emmanual College features the following RBA products:The 2011 Brisbane floods initiated the refurbishment of parts of University of Queensland’s Emmanuel College and created an opportunity to upgrade student amenities. The Facilities Managers decided to control water usage by using RBA’s Time-Trol shower controller. At the same time, they chose to replace out-dated twin element ‘boiler’ water heaters with instantaneous gas. The results were astonishing. “The university estimates it is now saving $60-$70K per year in water and energy savings.”The Time-Trol Shower unit allows maintenance staff to nominate run-time and lock-out parameters. These can be selected from, and changed to, any one of 12 options. No special coding required, just the flick of a dial by staff. It was ultimately decided to offer students a 5 minutes shower with a 30 second lockout. According to university staff ‘…the students have adapted to the usage restrictions seamlessly. There hasn’t been a complaint uttered…’

Due to tight plenum space and extremely congested plenum areas, Rondo’s new Xpress Drywall Grid System was the ideal ceiling system to use. This maximised the ceiling heights in all guest rooms while offering compliant plenum vertical clearances. Contractors implemented Rondo’s intricate feature ceilings and bulkheads throughout the entire building, such areas included the lobby, restaurants and conference areas.

The tower corridors to the hotel rooms followed a slight curve and the Rondo Technical Services Team were engaged to provide many engineered designs for both internal and external wall framings, as well as internal ceilings and external soffit framings. This included Stud & Track, MAXIframe External Wall Framing System, EXANGLE Finishing Sections and PANTHER Access Panels, all needed to meet the detail required throughout the tower and podium levels.

Architects from APP Arch-Studio created a building that serves as a multi-functional cultural centre, hosting important musical events, painting and photography exhibitions, as well as theatrical performances and film screenings. Combining all these functions was made possible due to a clear division of the building into two spatial modules: the glazed part acts as a philharmonic hall, while the second part is visual and exhibit-like, comprising of photography studios and a small cinema room.

Steve Domoney Architecture took on the challenge of designing a home for clients with children. This project came with a clear vision of a spacious family home, contemporary in line and warm in tone. The dining room has Capral AGS windows opening at exterior ground level to a fernery, while high-level Capral AGS 419 Flushline Framing System beyond the kitchen provides views to distant trees in the south-east. The formal lounge opens to a generous decking and garden behind.

Rondo supported Maxcon Pty Ltd through contractor L&Y Commercial for this project incorporating two 26 and 36 story residential towers of 551 apartments, an Art Series Hotel with 90 rooms, retail spaces and serviced offices. Due to the large-scale nature of the build, our customer was very satisfied with Rondo’s ability to provide quick turnaround times for crane lifts as well as our efficient and effective operation of installation and delivery of goods on site, on time.

Forget predictable ‘Hamptons’ beach design, and instead think laid-back beach location with a slight mid-century feel. To compliment the Goodwood Victorian ash, IronAsh cladding and Australian Oak Engineered Flooring were specified to create a continuous flow of design from inside to out. Matching the timber throughout a space creates a harmonious atmosphere that connects each room cohesively. Specifying timber all from the one manufacturer like ASH means you are getting consistent grain and quality products throughout the entire build.

The Mark Moran Group recently opened their latest luxury retirement, aged care and wellness precinct in the exclusive Sydney suburb of Vaucluse. The complex is more reminiscent of a high-end boutique hotel than a traditional aged care facility, with its state-of- the-art gymnasium, restaurant-quality room service, luxury spa, cinema and a unique Digital Concierge service. Yet the facilities still retain a welcoming, homely feel – a combination of serenity and class, perfectly reflecting the iconic seaside suburb in which it’s located.

About the ProjectThis Child Health and Learning facility in Manly, deliversspecialist child healthcare for up to 15,000 families a yearfrom rural, regional and remote New South Wales andbeyond.The new facility will integrate a state-of-the-art child schooland health service that will accommodate regional childrenand families nationwide.This six storey building includes school classrooms,consultant and observation rooms, a paediatric oral healthunit with a dental and orthodontics room, ophthalmology,occupational therapy, sensory rooms and a telecare centre.ChallengeOver 80% of construction litigation and defect claims are a result of water ingress, of that 80%, almost 30% of those are below grade issues. (City Futures Research Centre UNSW).The two biggest waterproofing challenges for this build were:1) Below Grade - Non structural Blinding Slab, 4 metres below sea level and less then 50 metres from Manly Beach. This build had decanters pumping over 1.3 million litres of water per day awayfrom the site during the construction phase.2) The creation of a waterproofing solution which would not fail if the membrane was penetrated, be it in the pre or post construction phase.Due to the proximity to the beach and the build having a raft slab in the basement, a standard cookie cutter below-grade waterproofing solution was not an option for this build.Tremco SolutionTremco were asked to provide a solution for this complex build. The biggest and most demanding waterproofing areas within the build that needed attention were:1) Below Grade - 50 metres from the ocean and 4 metres below sea level, we needed a reliable waterproofing solution, that would also be robust enough to withstand any punishment tradesdelivered post installation, we recommended and used Paraseal SW (Saltwater). Paraseal SW is a multi-layer sheet membrane waterproofing system consisting of a self-sealing, expandable layer of bentonite laminated to an impermeable, high density polyethylene (HDPE).2) iAuditor reporting- iAuditor is an onsite quality assurance program Tremco conduct for the builder and applicator to ensure our products are being installed correctly and to specification. This gives the builder the confidence that there will be no waterproofing defects within the build.Overall, both the builder and developer were happy with the end result, which provided the warranty and quality required of such a development.

London is a vibrant, busy and beautiful city, boasting constant innovation and unique architecture. Now, developments have become bigger and more competitive year on year. With expectations on office workspaces becoming increasingly more open and flexible, the requirement for integratable security has become a complex task. This led to the existing building of 10 Queen Street Place, Riverscape to have a much-needed refurbishment following the trend of open atriums, flexible floor space and usable rooftop space. Within this project, the interior and exterior were dramatically changed and enhanced utilising fresh entry and access control security solutions. Located next to Southwark Bridge and a couple minutes’ walk from the bustling area of Cannon Street Station is Riverscape. Originally opened back in 1980, the multi-storey office space was a modern development that sat on the sought-after area of the River Thames. This project was refurbed from top to bottom, with the original Boon Edam entrance solutions being upgraded to newer more innovative products. The lead architect was Aukett Swanke with interior designers Barr Gazetas leading the design of the refurbishment and, main contractors being Overbury. Working for this project years prior in relation to the old security lanes and revolving doors that were installed by Boon Edam, the London Sales team knew the building and requirements needed. It’s common to see dated installations be retrofitted with newer security products that modernise the look and feel of an entrance as well as upgrade the technology associated with them. A bold and significant new development has emerged in St Kilda as a ‘liveable Lego tower’, rising in tiered rainbow cubes that appear to balance like building blocks. Aptly named The Icon, the distinctive new building is wrapped in expanded aluminium mesh that changes colour as sunlight moves.The inspiration of artist Matthew Johnson, who worked with Jackson Clements Burrows Architects to conceptualise the distinctive complex, was achieved with Interpon Powder Coating on board as a collaborative partner.“My vision for the project was for people look up and see something interesting, to see something that is in a sense iconographic – as a marker or reference point,” explains Matthew.Interpon were involved with the project “right from the start”, explains Gareth Connell, Regional Specification, Interpon. Their association began after they were introduced to Pace Developments to discuss colour and product selection for the external façade.“We work closely with Interpon, and Pace asked us to quote with the product already powder coated,” says Ian Dunstan, southern regional sales manager at Locker Group, who manufacture perforated and expanded metal. Interpon were able to step in and develop the colour range separately, to meet the design brief and provide an ultra-durable coating system that meet the expectations of all parties.“The team at Interpon were very accommodating, engaged and professional in taking the concept on board,” says Matthew. “We were able to manifest unique colours based on the ratios I created with their chemist, inventing a whole new series of colours. This was crucial, as each level is depicted in different colour hue variations from earth to sky, which cross reference the nature of the geographical and environmental stratums. This flux of seasonal change is portrayed through subtle tonal gradation. Working with Interpon was a very fluid operation.”Interpon has collaborated on several high profile property developments and high rises over the years – although perhaps none quite as unique or with as many distinct characteristics as The Icon. “The nature of expanded aluminium mesh is such that it is formed by shearing and expanding aluminium sheet to create the ‘3D form’ effect. A visually appealing system for a façade, the shearing of the metal can present issues with very sharp edges, particularly in aggressive coastal environments,” Gareth explains.“Part of understanding this project was to comprehend as many elements as possible. Given the location was in St Kilda, with the bay just over 1.5km away, environmental considerations such as UV degradation, exposure to corrosive sea salts and prevailing winds needed to be considered.”After reviewing available data, such as Bureau of Meteorology weather patterns and local geography and topography maps, a specific duplex or two-layer powder finishing system was specified.“This consisted of a controlled preparation process for the expanded aluminium sheets. An epoxy barrier primer (was specified) to provide enhanced protection and to build the sharp edges in order to minimise issues associated with filiform corrosion. And the ultra-durability polyester powder top coat was developed in 34 distinct colours,” Gareth says.After the colour range was developed, it was applied by powder coating specialists Mansutti Bros. Lead by managing director Claude Mansutti, the team refinished hundreds of mesh panels over a period of nine months.“It was a major benefit to be using powder coating because, unlike liquid paints, powder is cured once it comes out of the oven and it’s ready to go once it’s cooled down. If they were painted, the drying phase could delay the process from refinish to installation by up to two weeks. It meant we were able to keep to a very strict schedule,” Claude says.“The project involved a lot of large spreadsheet work. There were 17 floors and over 30 colours, with panels in 15 sizes; it was quite a matrix to work with. But the end result is so different and so unique. It’s an interesting design and I’m sure it’s going to be a talking point for the area for many years.”

SAS International provided an unusual feature perforation to a metal ceiling solution for Cork County Council’s redevelopment of their MOT office. The refurbishment of Cork County Council has created an outstanding open plan office for their upgraded MOT Office. Included in the redevelopment is the installation of 240 meters squared of acoustic SAS500, with a unique OB50 perforation, installed within the open plan office, meeting rooms and cellular offices. Conserving the original architectural features was significant when embarking on the reconstruction of the building. SAS500 was chosen to accommodate the spacing of existing structural beams, the system hung on secondary grids to adhere to specific architectural requirements. To adhere to the recent popularity in open soffit trends, SAS500 offers a solution in addition to providing acoustic absorption. A unique OB50 perforation was specified in the design of the baffles for this project. SAS International worked in collaboration with Cork County Council Architects and CField Construction to provide bespoke design solutions for this project.

Jewel on the Gold Coast (Jewel), a luxury development of three crystalline towers constructed on the internationally renowned Surfers Paradise beachfront, Gold Coast. Jewel consists of 513 apartments and a 169-room luxury hotel – a first of its kind on the Gold Coast. The towers with their distinctive glass curtain walling system, are the result of a collaboration between Oppenheim Architects and DBI Design. The fundamental design concept drew inspiration from three smoky quartz crystals that we discovered in the region. Jewel is inspired by the crystalline volcanic hook that forms the underlying structure at the coastline and, in particular, the Gold Coast’s iconic hinterland. Multiplex was awarded this prestigious project and commenced construction of this billion-dollar development in 2016. The Jewel is Australia’s largest beachfront mixed-use development and the first absolute beachfront development on the Gold Coast in more than thirty years. Tilecorp Pty Ltd. was awarded the tiling contract on the project that included the installation of 600 x 300 mm porcelain tiles in the public areas, travertine in the apartments, penny round mosaics on the walls in the public amenities, and cobblestone in the outdoor areas.

Imagine waking up in this 4-star luxury hotel with panoramic view of the IJ and the city of Amsterdam. Hotel Jakarta: a BREEAM Excellent certified energy-neutral hotel in Amsterdam. Designed with sustainability in mind. Unique for the Netherlands is the 30-meter-high timber structure of the hotel. All columns, ceilings and frames are made from natural, FSC or PEFC certified wood. The south and east façades are covered with 700 m2 of building-integrated solar energy panels (BIPV panels). The glass roof that covers the atrium also contains BIPV cells that, in addition to collecting energy, also function as sun blinds for the subtropical inner garden. The atrium is the center of the hotel and works as a temperature controller in both summer and winter. On each side of the building, rooms have their own covered outdoor space that functions as a structural awning. A custom made revolving door provides access to the hotel where there is a dynamic public area with various bars, restaurants, coffee corners and a wellness center. This transparent revolving door is almost 6 meters high and fits perfectly with the appearance of the facade. In addition, this type of entrance solution is in line with the sustainability requirements of the building.

Calling it a ‘workplace of the future’ the new UK HQ spans over 130,000sq ft of redesigned space that homes 580+ employees. The challenge in this project was to unobtrusively implement secured entry solutions that could be stylish in appearance but also provide high-quality functionality. Social Open Space with State-of-the-Art Security With the overall theme being togetherness, collaboration and open workspace, there was a requirement for the building to be secured yet keep the spacious feeling. The challenge in this project was to unobtrusively implement secured entry solutions that could be stylish in appearance but also provide high-quality functionality. The entry solution was to implement a bespoke revolving door, combining a Crystal Tourniket and a framed Tourniket. This customised door benefits from a hidden fully automatic drive in the ceiling that also provides LED down lighting for better user visibility. The Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) now benefit from a highly progressive workspace in their newly refurbished head office on Parramatta Street. The main aim of the refurbishment project was to improve facilities and collaborative spaces for staff and visitors. However, a significant challenge for the contractors was to keep all existing communications rooms fully operational throughout the project. Achieving the Aim: SAS800 Trucell ceilings were installed in the open plan lounges and stairwells of the renovation. Creating a grid of squares, strong lines stretch the length and breadth of the collaborative space. The system gives a decorative feature to the fit-out with the illusion of a much larger space for activity-based working. Comfortable lounge furniture and bright colours have also been chosen to encourage communication and create a flexible working space. Meeting the Challenge: Specified with a lay-in exposed grid, each tile slots in place without the need for gaskets or cutting. With the building in constant use, installation was quick and easy keeping the project on schedule with minimal disruption. Popular in Australian CBD property markets, the refit considers occupant well-being with Grade A ‘end of trip’ facilities. An upgraded lobby area also contributes to the value-added space with an improved experience for employees and visitors alike.
