IronAsh and recycled brick, a match made in heaven.

IronAsh and recycled brick, a match made in heaven.

Australian Sustainable Hardwoods

“Having considered both performance and materiality factors, The Winton was designed with a green conscience. Reclaimed bricks provided such an interesting personality to the build, so it was important that the soft character of a natural timber species delivered the contrasting features” - Orbis Construction. Due to Victorian ash’s natural blonde tones, IronAsh has the flexibility to grey off or to be stained to meet any design needs. IronAsh is the combination of GoodWood Victorian ash and unique water-based additives to give a H3 treated exterior timber.

ECOTONE

Material & ApplicationECOTONE masonry stains applied to brickworkOutcomeThe owner completed some renovations which an extension on their home. Our ECOTONE team were contracted to colour the new brickwork to match with the existing bricks and provided an excellent finish.TestimonialI have just completed a huge extension to my home and struggled finding the exact brick to match.Fortunately, I was given Wayne Duncan's (ECOTONE) number and he set my mind at ease by saying "it will not be a problem as he will come and colour match to our house brick". I couldn't believe this was possible. I couldn’t find the actual brick colour of our home anywhere in this country. Collecting bricks with the shape, size and texture was my goal but they were every colour you could think of, people thought I was mad. I was just amazed at how Wayne and his team worked and created a masterpiece, they have done the most outstanding job but were professional, fast and worked together as a team and made this experience the most pleasurable of the build. People and tradespersons that have seen the before and after are just blown away as you cannot tell the difference. I would highly recommend ECOTONE (Wayne and his team) to anyone. THANK YOU!!!!!! J. ECOTONE

CollaborationArchitect: Space Cubed DesignBuilder: Zero 9 ConstructionsMaterial & ApplicationOur ECOTONE team created and applied a white colour finish using ECOTONE Matt to the grey brick moulded precast concrete. The surface was then protected and sealed with ECOCLEAN Clean and Protect Shield to provide a gloss finish which would also be easy to clean and provide antimould, anti-bacterial and antiviral benefits.OutcomeThe architect had included a gloss white brick to the interior colour scheme however supply became an issue. ECOTONE was asked to step in and collaborate with the design team to deliver a durable gloss white colour finish while maintaining a grey mortar realistic effect. A truly stunning and sustainable Colour by Design!TestimonialThe ECOTONE team were very professional to deal with from the start of the process. The guys on site were friendly, professional and did a very neat job. The product itself is amazing, we applied the clear sealer on top of the white ECOTONE stain to the bricks, nothing sticks to it and it is very easy to clean.Adam Fisher, Zero 9 Constructions

Wellington International Airport, NZ

Dyson (Australia)

Wellington Airport previously used warm hand dryers and paper towels. Their motivations for changing hand drying method were to find a more environmentally sustainable form of hand drying, also wanting to avoid the slip hazard that can result from water on the floor. Project Architect, Katherine Skipper explains "The Dyson Airblade Wash+Dry provided the perfect solution for the problems they were having with water on the floor and constant restocking of paper towels."

Ivanhoe Apartments

Sculptform

Ivanhoe’s newest building is a landmark you can’t miss. The facade components of light bricks, dark cladding and luminous aluminium Click-on Battens perfectly complement each other, creating a contemporary finish. The interior also features our battens, which seamlessly connects to the exterior. The building comprises a three-level basement, ground floor retail outlets, two levels of offices and multiple fully appointed apartments among the two upper levels. The building is bordered on three sides by busy public roads which posed logistical challenges with its construction. However, the speed and ease of installing Click-on Battens alleviated this issue on the upper levels. The curved facade is wrapped in Sculptform aluminium Click-on Battens. They were installed upon standard and curved tracks which were delivered to site in a flexible state so that they’re able to be wrapped around the substrate and hug the exterior. Batten clips are factory fixed to the tracks at the spacing sequence that is specified. Helping to save time installing on-site. Battens are simply push-clicked onto mounting tracks that are positioned behind the battens in a concealed manner.

Boon Edam Australia Pty Ltd

Known as being positioned within one of the most popular positions within London, The River Building sits comfortably between London Bridge, St Paul’s, and Bank. The position offers enviable commutes for the city workforce, boasting a five minutes’ walk from six key tube stations. Renovated to utilise a once void entrance, The River Building is now a self-contained office space with a contemporary industrial design. Stiff + Trevillion working with Blackstone Group, had specified early into the design process for the Lifeline Speedlane Swing, due to its existing specification in existing projects. The new two-story building boasts a spacious atrium that combines naked brick walling with warm feature lighting and dark tones. Mimicking the interior styling a bank of Lifeline Speedlane Swings were to be finished in black RAL. The River Building with an occupancy density of 1:8 requested comfortable yet stylish entry resulting in a wider lane width configuration. The 615mm passage width utilises two glass wings that offer fast access but give the illusion of openness.

Flowcrete Australia Works Wonders at Swinburne University Workshop

Flowcrete

Swinburne University of Technology located in Hawthorn, Victoria required a new flooring solution for its Department of Architectural and Industrial Design workshop space. To find a solution that was both durable and decorative, Flowcrete Australia was consulted.600 m2 of Flowfresh SR in a custom Ultramarine Blue was installed at the Swinburne University Hawthorn campus thanks to its robust nature and ability to be specified in a bespoke colour. The workshop, locker area and classrooms provide students with a creative space to formulate, plan and create their visions, and the custom colour was chosen to help inspire and keep the creative juices flowing! As well as being extremely hard-wearing, the polyurethane system Flowfresh SR is also chemical resistant, meaning that it could withstand spills of drinks, paints or other substances that could harm lesser floors.Although Flowfresh SR has a positively textured surface with non-slip aggregates, the flooring system is also very easy to clean, meaning that spills or dirt could easily be wiped away, maintaining a safe space for staff and students.Prior to the application of Flowfresh SR, substantial remediation works were required including the removal of timber parquetry and the filling of over 100 lineal metres of 50mm deep service trenches.

Margaret Whitlam Grandstand – Waverly Oval

Margaret Whitlam Grandstand – Waverly Oval

Tremco

About the ProjectThe sporting history of Waverly Oval dates from the 1880s when the Waverley Cricket Club gained approval to construct a pitch. Football codes also began using the park at this time. In 1890, the oval was created, and in 1898 the Waverley District Baseball club was founded at the oval. The first pavilion was built by the Waverley Cricket Club in the 1890s and Council built a second pavilion in 1908 with expanded facilities for the benefit of the cricketers and the public. This Pavilion was replaced in 1939 with an Inter War Functionalist style building. In April 2012 the new Waverley Park Pavilion was named the Margaret Whitlam Recreation Centre, in honour of the long association the late Margaret Whitlam (AO) had with the Waverley area. The pavilion was chosen because of its civic, community and recreational facilities incorporating several important aspects of Margaret Whitlam’s life.ProblemRemediation of the pedestrian areas of Margaret Whitlam Grandstand was completed 5 years ago but unfortunately was not successful due to product failure (not Tremco). Council contacted Tremco to provide an acceptable solution with the requirements that the new system needed to come with a 15 year warranty. The challenge of this project was not the 15 year warranty period, but the need for a low odour solution due to the area being in a Public/Government venue. Not all membranes have Low VOC properties.SolutionTremco recommended Vulkem 350/951NF/951NF for the job, which is not only low odour but also offers a 15 year warranty period as required from the council. Tremco offering onsite support throughout the project gave the council confidence in our product.Vulkem 350/951NF/951NF, is a composite waterproofing system comprised of tough-curing liquid polyurethane. It cures to form a durable rubber membrane surface that provides a lasting and easy-to-clean waterproof and trafficable coating. Textured surfaces for traffic will use an aggregate-laden top membrane to aid in wear and slip resistance.
