Working beside Doig Architecture, Rondo provided expert design and technical advice particularly with the high internal walls. Regular on-site inspections ensured products were installed to specification and delivered on time. This massive project took two years of construction to complete, and Rondo’s technical services team were able to provide design solutions for challenging areas in the project. This included a heavy gauge 150mm Steel Stud Wall Framing System which required alignment with and concealment of the structural frame of the building, and a 6 metre high internal dividing wall that was subjected to higher internal pressures due to the louvres installed.

Steve Domoney Architecture took on the challenge of designing a home for clients with children. This project came with a clear vision of a spacious family home, contemporary in line and warm in tone. The dining room has Capral AGS windows opening at exterior ground level to a fernery, while high-level Capral AGS 419 Flushline Framing System beyond the kitchen provides views to distant trees in the south-east. The formal lounge opens to a generous decking and garden behind.

SAS International bespoke metalwork comprising of a striking waveform shaped ceiling was designed by architects Arup Associates to feature in the construction of Ropemaker Place, London EC2 for British Land. Simon Anson, architect at Arup Associates comments; “The purpose of the ceiling was to provide the 10.5m tall entrance foyer with an acoustic performance, and create a lighting source providing both uplight and downlight. The illuminated ceiling provides the entrance foyer with visual impact from views of City Point Plaza, Ropemaker Street and The City.” Simon Anson continues, “The appearance of the ceiling is that of a series of illuminated vaulted waves flowing into the interior, the volume of the space perceptually expanded by the uplit waveform surfaces. The vaulted ceiling with its flowing contours provides a visually stunning focal point as well as a practical solution to the acoustic requirements of the interior of the building.” Specialist bespoke wave ceilings were installed in the atrium, main reception area, lift lobbies and main external canopy. The waveform panel, although elegant in appearance, had to have the required strength to support the light fitting. The extra weight posed a significant design challenge of how to integrate and support the light fitting into the waveform panel. The complex design required all fixings to be concealed, as a large proportion of the face and rear of the waveform tiles are visible. In the design development and installation of the system, Arup Associates worked closely with SAS International and the specified lighting manufacturer, Zumtobel, to ensure the panels integrated seamlessly with the luminaires to produce the optimum installation.

Designed by Tony Owen Partners, Breezway Altair Louvre Windows were recommended to the Developer by the Architects at Tony Owen Partners due to their visually appealing aesthetics, the products full certification and compliance with Australian Standards, and Breezway’s strong reputation in the window industry. Altair Louvres with the Stronghold System have been strategically placed on the corner of the building as a key visual feature. Being a high quality window system, Altair Louvres will provide protection from the elements and are restricted to comply with Fall Prevention requirements.

About the ProjectThe ANZAC Memorial was designed as a sculptural monument, a unique collaboration between Architect Charles Bruce Dellit and sculptor George Rayner Hoff; it is arguably one of the finest examples of the union of architecture and art in Australia.The building is a striking architectural form, symmetrical on both axes. It uses elements reminiscent of traditional Gothic architecture (buttresses, cathedral windows, high ceilings) in the Art Deco style. The Memorial is adorned externally with twenty sculptures representing the units of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). These are the sentinels of the building, keeping watch while representing the fallen to whom the building is dedicated.Bruce Dellit’s vision for the Memorial included a still pool bounded by poplars to the north of the building (included for their significant symbolic association with the battles in France and Belgium), and a cascading fountain to the south.The Hall of Service, at the centre of the Centenary Extension, is a civic space that architecturally and artistically mirrors the Hall of Silence. The Hall was named in acknowledgment of the original Memorial halls and to recognise more than a century of service by Australian servicemen and servicewomen. At the threshold to the space are the words: “NSW Service with and for All Australians”.The ChallengeWhen restoring a National War Monument visited by hundreds of thousands of people, you need to provide the highest quality results and finishes expected of such a significant structure in our history. The challenge here, comes from creating a restoration solution on a building which was designed in the early 1930’s, which will be flexible enough to maintain the architects core design features but also created and executed within a tight time frame in time for ANZAC day. The solution needed to encompass modern technology with traditional design features to ensure the restoration lasts for the next 100 years as a memorial to our fallen heroes.Tremco SolutionTremco worked closely with Sure Seal and Built to provide a solution which was both timely and high quality. the installers long standing relationship with Tremco, a number of unique solutions, together with a 20 year warranty period proved a success.Over 15,000m2 of Tremco products were installed on this historic site. Tremco provided regular iAudit reports on the job site (iAudits is a quality control measure used to ensure the products are being applied consistently to maintain warranty conditions) During regular site visits, Tremco were able to provide a high level of customised Technical information and design advice to ensure the project ran smoothly and to Built’s expectations.

The Mark Moran Group recently opened their latest luxury retirement, aged care and wellness precinct in the exclusive Sydney suburb of Vaucluse. The complex is more reminiscent of a high-end boutique hotel than a traditional aged care facility, with its state-of- the-art gymnasium, restaurant-quality room service, luxury spa, cinema and a unique Digital Concierge service. Yet the facilities still retain a welcoming, homely feel – a combination of serenity and class, perfectly reflecting the iconic seaside suburb in which it’s located.

Ivanhoe’s newest building is a landmark you can’t miss. The facade components of light bricks, dark cladding and luminous aluminium Click-on Battens perfectly complement each other, creating a contemporary finish. The interior also features our battens, which seamlessly connects to the exterior. The building comprises a three-level basement, ground floor retail outlets, two levels of offices and multiple fully appointed apartments among the two upper levels. The building is bordered on three sides by busy public roads which posed logistical challenges with its construction. However, the speed and ease of installing Click-on Battens alleviated this issue on the upper levels. The curved facade is wrapped in Sculptform aluminium Click-on Battens. They were installed upon standard and curved tracks which were delivered to site in a flexible state so that they’re able to be wrapped around the substrate and hug the exterior. Batten clips are factory fixed to the tracks at the spacing sequence that is specified. Helping to save time installing on-site. Battens are simply push-clicked onto mounting tracks that are positioned behind the battens in a concealed manner.

The £70 million project saw SAS International design and manufacture bespoke spun alum­inium profiled discs, acoustic metal wall panelling and System 600 rafts in the new terminal. The architects 3D Reid had to make the building light, airy and modern yet the façade and various materials used within the terminal had to withstand potential of a security breach. All products installed ‘land-side’ were required to meet the requirements of Aviation Security in Airport Development (ASIAD). The result answers aesthetic demands, yet provides the highest level of performance for the requirements of the building. For the design to be realised, square aluminium sheets were cut by the manufacturer into a circle and spun into a dome. Installation in such an environment means safety cables had to be attached to each disc, wall panel, tile and raft to ensure they do not fall and cause injury. Allowance for safety cables to be attached had to be taken into consideration during the design phase. Large vertical wall panels with an ultra-micro perforation were also specified to provide the necessary acoustic properties required for this vast open space. The very fine 0.7mm perforation, with 1% open area, helps to manage acoustics within the large open spaced terminal. The off-site modular manufacture of the architectural metalwork products meant installation was quicker, which causes less disruption to such a busy environment, and in addition there is no waste on site. Aesthetic versatility can be achieved using SAS International Architectural Metalwork throughout projects. It also allows for inte­gration of M&E services into the building design while meeting design demands and durability requirements. The range includes acoustic baffles, acoustic wall panels, air handling units, bespoke ceilings, and column casings.

The Farr Institute in Edinburgh is a collaboration between six Scottish Universities and the NHS National Services Scotland. They aim to place the country as a global leader in health informatics research whilst improving the health of the Scottish population. 30,000 sq. ft. has been fitted out to accommodate Bio Incubator laboratories and offices together with meeting, conference and dining facilities. The remainder of the building will accommodate laboratories and offices for life science research. SAS International’s acoustic baffles were specified to meet acoustic demand and make the most of the high ceilings and breathable space. The colours, baffle layout and service integration were carefully co-ordinated to the brief. SAS130 and SAS330 were specified and installed in the central core. Both systems offer quick and easy access to otherwise hidden mechanical and electrical systems. With SAS130, tiles can be lifted out to gain access to the ceiling void. SAS330’s hinge notch allows tiles to be hung vertically from C-Profiles, providing unobstructed access to the ceiling void. Ray Kwiecinski at Michael Laird Architects gave the below quote on working with SAS International; “MLA has specified a variety of SAS International’s lay-in grid ceiling systems over the years and we have always been extremely satisfied with the finished product. At the Farr Institute however, we decided to create a feature of the structural soffits and the M&E services and, by careful coordination of these services, the steel beams… [With] the SAS Baffle System and SAS Raft System 600, we were able to create an open, collaborative and exciting office environment whilst maintaining a high degree of sound absorbency. Our Client is delighted with the results as are we.” The Institute’s independent research will support innovation in the public sector, leading to advances in preventative medicine, improvements in NHS care and better development of commercial drugs and diagnostics.

The first stage of a two hectare urban regeneration development in Docklands opened in 2018 and introduced the city of Melbourne’s first elevated public park. Floating 10 metres above open public space, a spectacular Tongue & Groove Cladding Soffit overhangs 90 metres, providing natural warmth and texture and remaining consistent with the design of the project. Installed by our partner installer Casello, the project is an example of how our expert installers can complete a project on time and on budget. Green space in the CBD Biophilic design principles were a key to the design of One Melbourne Quarter, bringing the warmth and beauty of natural materials to the workplace. The most prominent inclusion is the spectacular Skypark, located directly above the entrance of the building, on the second floor. The Skypark is a perfect ‘suspended oasis’, bringing the uniquely relaxing aspects of a local park to the inner city. A statement through a soffit With the Skypark suspended above street level, the underside presented a perfect opportunity for the architects Denton Corker Marshall to create a unique feature which was consistent with the design ambitions of the project. Behind the look Sculptform Tongue & Groove Cladding provided a beautiful natural aesthetic in spotted gum. The combination of visual features and colour variation contrasts the greys of the Melbourne CBD and contributes to the overall identity of the project. PEFC certified timber was required to meet Green Star Rating, which was then sourced by Sculptform.

Now, and after years of meticulous renovation and restoration, the Miesian Plaza is set to welcome its new tenants, including the likes of Ireland’s Department of Health. Aiming to achieve the highest LEED platinum accreditation, architects Scott Tallon Walker have said their goal is: “To provide Grade A accommodation of the highest modern standard to equal or surpass the finest developments in the market.” Combining sustainable high-grade services all encased in a bronze-tinted double-glazed window motif, the building achieves the architect’s bold aim to create a building like no other. SAS International designed and manufactured products for three of the Miesian Plaza’s blocks. As the building module size is imperial, SAS was able to provide bespoke C profile width to maintain the buildings original 64 1/2” planning module.

London is a vibrant, busy and beautiful city, boasting constant innovation and unique architecture. Now, developments have become bigger and more competitive year on year. With expectations on office workspaces becoming increasingly more open and flexible, the requirement for integratable security has become a complex task. This led to the existing building of 10 Queen Street Place, Riverscape to have a much-needed refurbishment following the trend of open atriums, flexible floor space and usable rooftop space. Within this project, the interior and exterior were dramatically changed and enhanced utilising fresh entry and access control security solutions. Located next to Southwark Bridge and a couple minutes’ walk from the bustling area of Cannon Street Station is Riverscape. Originally opened back in 1980, the multi-storey office space was a modern development that sat on the sought-after area of the River Thames. This project was refurbed from top to bottom, with the original Boon Edam entrance solutions being upgraded to newer more innovative products. The lead architect was Aukett Swanke with interior designers Barr Gazetas leading the design of the refurbishment and, main contractors being Overbury. Working for this project years prior in relation to the old security lanes and revolving doors that were installed by Boon Edam, the London Sales team knew the building and requirements needed. It’s common to see dated installations be retrofitted with newer security products that modernise the look and feel of an entrance as well as upgrade the technology associated with them. Today its pioneering history continues to be a source of inspiration as they celebrate their place among the best and brightest minds.When Macquarie University’s existing cark park became too small for the amount of cars now using it, it was decided to construct an overflow car park. However, not just any car park, but in keeping with their innovative thinking, an environmentally friendly permeable car park. Of course the Atlantis® Turf CellTM system was chosen, so that turf covered parking spaces could be provided.The project required 9,843sq. m of Atlantis® Turf CellTM system, which is constructed from 480mm x 260mm x 52mm panels and has a rigid interlocking clipping system and is made from high quality recycled polypropylene. The project was undertaken by J & G Excavations and Asphalting (NSW) Pty Ltd.The Turf CellTM cells were laid on a bed of permeable soil, and filled with sandy soil and turf was then placed on top of the linked Atlantis® Turf CellTM cells and rolled with a heavy roller to press the roots into the soil in the cells, where they were protected from compaction and could grow freely both horizontally and vertically.The Turf CellTM system is another Atlantis invention, and is specifically suited for car parks, access roads, aircraft taxiways and helicopter landing pads as it has the following features:a high load bearing of approximately 4000t/sq. M;protects the root system of grass from compaction, while allow for vigorous horizontal and vertical root growth;permits surface water absorption and infiltration;has a long use life; andaesthetically, the system allows the grass to fill in completely, creating a lush lawn with an invisible reinforcement structure.

The building is designed to be spacious and not intimidating to the public, encouraging citizens to visit. Catering for Capital Hill’s requirements of security, high traffic and minimal maintenance, RBA has supplied a number of Bobrick Accessories specific to this project, suitable for both the highest of political representatives and the average citizen.RBA’s Bobrick Contura™ Surface Mounted Soap Dispenser, or the B4112, is made of strong Stainless Steel and holds a capacity of 1.2L. The unit is Antibacterial Soap resistant, allowing for its users to maintain optimal hygiene without wear and tear. Needing nominal maintenance, the B4112 is ideal for high traffic locations. Exhibiting a Satin Finish, the unit is a subtle addition to the facilities whilst simultaneously complimenting the silver notes in the Washroom design.Also pictured below is RBA’s Bobrick Trimline™ Recessed 2-in-1 Combination Unit, containing both a Paper Towel Dispenser and Waste Receptacle B38034. Recessed in nature, the unit invades minimal space while holding a large capacity of 600 C-fold of 800 multifold paper towels and a waste capacity of 14.4L, sporting two Tumbler Locks for security. The new Student Center at Columbia College Chicago, located at 754 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago, opened its doors in the fall of 2019. This brand-new building offers five spectacular stories of spaces for students including music and film-screening rooms, dining options, a fitness centre, a reflection room for meditation and prayer, and event spaces for meetings, performances, and receptions. Columbia College Chicago has a closed campus. In order to enter any building on campus students and staff must have a Columbia ID or visitors must have a valid appointment. The main entrance at the Student Centre is the Tourniket manual revolving door that leads to a public foyer that includes a coffee shop and lounge. Since the speed gates are just past the security desk at the boundary of this area, they serve as a visual and physical indicator of where the public area terminates. Next to the Speedlane Open speed gates, which are notable because they do not have any closing barriers, guards watch as people pass through them to ensure that everyone is scanning their IDs and that the IDs are valid, in which case the speed gate shows a green light. In a situation where a red light shows and the gate alarms, the guard will check the person’s credentials and can try to troubleshoot the ID card. “The decision was really about what creates the least barrier to those entering and exiting the building,” said Dutil. “We don't really want our students to feel like they are overly policed or that our buildings are not accessible to them. So the design of the Open speed gates provided the best solution in terms of controlling access without being obtrusive." Swift Passage While Maintaining Accountability Before the Student Center was built, students entering any campus building would just show their ID to the security officer as they walked past. The administration realised that while this does provide some level of security, it is not foolproof – particularly when many people are entering at the same time for a class. The College’s head of security made the suggestion to install a system that would allow for swift passage of authorised people while maintaining accountability around who enters and exits the building. As anticipated, there was a brief learning curve for the students using the new system. “This was the first system like this on our campus,” said Dutil. “And the first few days that the new Centre was open were also the first few days of school. There were a lot of people new to the campus who required a bit of coaching from guards and our student staff in terms of where to place your card, and to not walk through before you place your card.” Coming Out Ahead of Swinging Doors Dutil confirms that the access systems placed at Boon Edam speed gates are actually outperforming those placed at swing doors across the campus for convenience and adoption. Across the campus, there is a card reader at every swing door entrance of a building where you present your card and a light turns red or green. But oftentimes the card reader is missed, or depending on the placement of the lights and placement of the guard, it can be kind of hit or miss with students walking right by it. “But with the Open speed gates, they're very visible and although they're not a total barrier to entry, they are something that's right in front of you. Because it's very noticable and not easily overlooked, the students have learned pretty quickly to get their ID out. In fact, this was meant to be a test run for the campus to ensure it would be viable and worthwhile for other buildings as well.” Advanced Features Add Value and Flexibility The speed gates have delivered additional benefits beyond basic campus security, according to Dutil. “One of the nice things about a system like this is that we can count visitors to the Student Centre because we get the data of everybody that scans in. So on a busy day for us it's about 2500 people throughout the day. That can range depending on what's going on and what time of year it is. On weekends we're very slow, since there are no classes – maybe 900 to 1200.” “We are a rental venue as well, so we have times where the building is open to non-Columbia College Chicago people for events or other functions. There's a really convenient touch panel right at the security desk called the BoonTouch, where the officer can turn off the turnstiles during those times and then attendees can move through freely without any alarms going off at all.” A New Revolving Door Adds Comfort and Peace of Mind Finally, the Tourniket manual revolving door delivers one additional benefit to the Student Centre, located in a city known for harsh weather. “Revolving doors are always preferred at a building like this that gets a lot of traffic going in and out. We have cold, drafty weather that blows right into our main space at that first floor entry. The revolving door helps to keep the building warm and saves energy and utility costs as well,” said Dutil. “Students feel safe and comfortable entering the building at night,” he concludes. “Our building has a lot of nooks and crannies, and someone can end up alone in a space. And so I think knowing that the only people that are in that building are the ones that are supposed to be there is helpful. Overall, our students appreciate the effort to try to keep them safer.”

European telecommunications operator, Tele2 were moving into new offices in Kista Science City - Stockholm as their headquarters. It had been decided that they were going in an Activity - Based Workplace direction, featuring large, open work areas where people could move freely throughout most of the building. From a security perspective, this work concept came with a few challenges. The Business Challenge Tele2 were moving into a new building with an “Open Office” design. The challenge was to create a transparent, inviting atmosphere while still maintaining a high level of security. Furthermore, an emergency exit was also required through the gates. Together with Tele2 and BAU architects, Boon Edam started sketching and researching, to find the perfect solution for the main entrance to the building. The original plan to make the building as open as possible, changed slightly to accommodate important security needs, both around the entrance and throughout the whole building itself.

Chemical termite controls were not an option because of toxicity issues, making a clean and environmentally safe physical termite barrier the correct solution.APPROACHA typical WA site, the college’s location is predominantly flat, with sandy soils and substrates. In general, this type of environment poses a high risk for termite attack common to this region of Western Australia. SOLUTIONThe main challenge with the installation came from the rammed earth exterior walls. Their natural composition can chip easily, so nailing or sealing the termite barrier onto the wall was not practical.Our solution was to install Termimesh cold joint /paver trays to the perimeter of the concrete slab edge. These protected the concealed entry point between the slab and wall.
