Originally and still currently known in Ireland as Penny’s, these UK headquarters resides in the centre of vibrant Reading. Launching its first clothing store back in 1969, the affordable yet innovative fashion retailer offers shoppers a unique shopping experience with its staple large stores, airy layouts and competitive item pricing. Calling it a ‘workplace of the future’ the new UK HQ spans over 130,000sq ft of redesigned space that homes 580+ employees. The challenge in this project was to unobtrusively implement secured entry solutions that could be stylish in appearance but also provide high-quality functionality. Social Open Space with State-of-the-Art Security With the overall theme being togetherness, collaboration and open workspace, there was a requirement for the building to be secured yet keep the spacious feeling. The challenge in this project was to unobtrusively implement secured entry solutions that could be stylish in appearance but also provide high-quality functionality. The entry solution was to implement a bespoke revolving door, combining a Crystal Tourniket and a framed Tourniket. This customised door benefits from a hidden fully automatic drive in the ceiling that also provides LED down lighting for better user visibility. One New Change features SAS International bespoke metal ceiling panels with an expanded metal mesh, finished in silver, red and black. The ground-breaking, bold and perceptive £300 million One New Change mixed-use development project won the MIPIM AR Future Project Award 2010. Now complete, the building has become known as the ‘Stealth Bomber’ after the radar-proof combat plane that inspired its faceted form and has also won a RIBA 2011 Award for London and LDSA Building Excellence Award. The design incorporates pedestrian arcades converging at the core of the building, reinstating a historic north-south pedestrian route and allowing new panoramas of London’s landmark St Paul’s Cathedral. SAS International supplied the ceiling solution for the retail corridors of the development with a concealed suspension system, working closely with the architects to create a result where no visible fixings can be seen through the ceiling plane. To complement this, bespoke metal ceiling panels were produced with an expanded metal mesh, finished in silver, red and black. A challenging material to work with, to ensure the mesh held a uniform shape and corners for the panels could be formed accurately, SAS International’s solution was to create a ‘picture frame’ behind each panel. This also helped to provide support for the concealed attachment bolts. Design challenges at One New Change included the building grid size and shape (it was termed the most difficult site in Europe), the complex geometry of the structure (including some tight ceiling to structural beam heights), and a shared fire strategy between retail and office storeys. Requirements to achieve an environmentally-friendly building, complying with Part L and BREEAM ratings, were also critical and the design uses a materials palette of limestone, metal, mirror and a new method of fritted glass on the exterior to help shield the interior from glare.

The first installation in Australasia has been completed of Boon Edam’s Circleslide architectural curved automatic sliding doors that elegantly cater to access for disability needs of modern and traditional buildings. The Circleslide installation for Mark Moran Group at Pacific Highway Warrawee on Sydney’s North Shore provides a prestigious, weather-protected entrance to a development of up-market aged care accommodation built by Next Group for Benson McCormack Architecture.  The door’s practical advantages also apply to a wide range of buildings in Australia and New Zealand, including commercial and public and private facilities, including offices, aged care, health, hospitality, restaurant, retail, tourist and transport facility uses, says Boon Edam Australia Managing Director, Michael Fisher.Circleslide installations consist of two sets of curved sliding doors – one on each of the entrance and exit sides – to provide a larger opening than traditional sliding doors, and retaining the elegant shape of revolving doors. This extra space is a major advantage for people with a disability, or those that require mobility aids. Enhanced accessibility Circleslide curved automatic sliding doors provide spacious and comfortable access for everyone using them including especially people with disability and their carers, and particularly people those with mobility issues who rely on wheelchairs, mobility scooters, wheeled walkers and other mobility devices commonly used in workplaces and public facilities. “Access to public and private facilities is an important and increasing issue for more than five million Australians and New Zealanders living with disabilities. This growing sector of the population includes the higher proportion of older people with limited mobility, including more than 750,000 Australasians who use mobility aids,” says Mr Fisher. “Where building professionals seek to provide for such people but want to retain the prestigious shape and functionality of revolving doors, Circleslide doors are an ideal solution that provides the additional capacity required,” he says. Circleslide doors complement Boon Edam’s global ranges of revolving doors, which is one of the world’s most comprehensive ranges. Rondo worked closely with Wadsworth Contracting providing KEY-LOCK Concealed Ceiling Systems, Panther Access Panels, plastering beads as well as external 92mm framing, soffit framing, internal 76 & 64mm wall framing.

The casino is the largest in the world with 3,400 slot machines, 800 gambling tables and a 15,000 seated arena for entertainment/sports events. The Venetian Macau is so large that 90 Boeing 747 jumbo jets could fit into it.

For instance, Superior faced the challenge of creating curved detailed bulkheads and feature ceilings. However, with Rondo’s help using a hybrid of the Rondo KEY-LOCK Concealed Ceiling System and Stud & Track Wall Framing System, they managed to create a great outcome.

Rondo worked closely with Future Carpentry and Ceilings to meet the project requirements on time and were chosen due to our strong 15-year relationship. However, the $70 million re-development wasn’t without its challenges, for instance, the speed by which the building went up meant there was no time to waste.

The Gateway building In Sydney’s Circular Quay is Australia’s first office tower to use fully integrated touchless 3D fingerprint scanning to allow authorised office workers and guests into the building. The building’s new entrance involves a complex integration of security and technology experts, including Boon Edam, Schindler Lifts, Honeywell and IDEMIA (the manufacturers of MorphoWave fingerprint scanning technology). The solution had to work seamlessly to enhance the user experience and building security for tenants and visitors at the 46-storey landmark building in Sydney’s CBD, owned by Dexus Wholesale Property Fund. Boon Edam delivered the entrance security solution, with Lifeline Speedlane Swing speed gates that are the slimmest in the market, which added to the aesthetics, and helped with design considerations within the width of the lift lobbies. Rising Demand by Tenants for Increased Protection The upgrade project required an entrance security system that incorporated sophisticated security yet kept an aesthetically pleasing and unobtrusive lobby. The ideal solution was found by integrating Boon Edam speed gates, MorphoWave fingerprint scanners mounted on a coordinating pedestal (the Lifeline Boost), Schindler Lift destination control and Honeywell access control technology. This was a response to increasing demands by building occupants to improve the entry security measures to better cater for the protection of employees, visitors and valuable data. A Complex, yet Perfect Orchestration Gateway’s access solution includes a bank of sleek and stylish security speed gates (Boon Edam’s Lifeline Speedlane Swing), which are seamlessly integrated with touchless and intelligent elevator destination control (Schindler Port’s PORT 4 mini) and security access via a biometric fingerprint scanning (IDEMIA’s MorphoWave) – all at one point, enabling quick, accurate and seamless entry to secured areas. These technologies are all controlled by Honeywell’s access control system. Mr Stephen Hodge, Senior Project Manager, Dexus added that “with so many stakeholders, and a strong need for reliability and quality, it was important that everyone knew the goals of the project and worked well together. I’m pleased to say that it was like a perfect jigsaw and everything came together smoothly.” “What was important to Dexus is that we were pushing the boundaries to create better experiences, but we’re only doing so with proven products. Boon Edam’s speed gates have been installed globally and locally, and this gave us added confidence that they were the right product for this forward-looking project,” he said.

Installation of floor and wall coverings, Sealants application, Surface preparation, Tile & stone installation systems, Waterproofing

Working closely with SA Master Plaster as the internal drywall contractor Rondo has supplied 64 & 92mm x 0.70BMT and 92mm x 1.15BMT wall studs for the internal wall framing with over 1,000 studs being required per floor. Also the project is utilising Rondo KEY-LOCK concealed plasterboard framing for ceilings and over 2,000m2 of the external Rondo MAXIframe wall system.

Rondo stands proud being the site-wide supplier for drywalls throughout the City of Dreams. The Rondo Malaysia team has worked very hard to service this project by arranging and loading 35 containers a month, replying to dozens of technical inquiries a week and running the factory 24 hours a day to ensure that they have the coils to keep the machines running.

Rondo Technical Representative Tino Cucinotta, worked closely with the 2DG team – and assisted with the supply of QUIET STUD Acoustic Wall System, Stud & Track and Finishing Sections, whilst Rondo’s newly released XPRESS Drywall Grid Ceiling System was due to arrive, ensuring the project could continue efficiently.

For this particular project, Rondo had been engaged to supply Steel Stud & Track and KEY-LOCK Concealed Ceiling System for the project which is exposed to high winds due to its location and height.

The $11.3 million dollar renovation of Lambton Square required Rondo product throughout including our Key-Lock Concealed Ceiling System, Steel Stud Wall framing system and various other Rondo components for the fixing of plasterboard and feature panels.

Rondo provided a range of market leading wall and ceiling systems for both buildings 3 and 4. Our KEYLOCK Concealed Suspended Ceiling System and Steel Stud and Track Wall Framing System were used for the internal fit out, completed by AUSTRAL Interiors. SMTM Projects used our 1.15 BMT Stud and Track with top hats.

The curved suspended ceilings, that features wavy ‘skylights’ meant the Top Cross Rail component had to be made to a radius that met the architectural specification. This, in turn required the expertise of the Rondo Technical Services Team to ensure the wave, ‘skylight’ feature (using KEY-LOCK Concealed Suspended Ceiling components) would actually work. Not only that, the Rondo Team also had to adhere to strict deadlines to ensure the material could be supplied to the project on time.

Due to tight plenum space and extremely congested plenum areas, Rondo’s new Xpress Drywall Grid System was the ideal ceiling system to use. This maximised the ceiling heights in all guest rooms while offering compliant plenum vertical clearances. Contractors implemented Rondo’s intricate feature ceilings and bulkheads throughout the entire building, such areas included the lobby, restaurants and conference areas.

The Watson apartment complex is the epitome of elegance with contemporary homes, jaw-dropping views, finishes and details. Built in the 1960s, there was an extensive use of asbestos which took a lot of hard work and health precautions by the developer to remove before reinstallation/remodelling commenced. Rondo has provided extensive technical support since the initiation of the project, providing Rondo Steel Stud and KEY-LOCK Concealed Suspended Ceiling Systems to the $120 million development.

Construction started on Burj Khalifa in 2004 before the building was officially opened in January 2010, although ceiling systems are still being supplied to the office areas on level 160. At the peak of construction, over 12,000 workers were onsite every day from 30 contracting companies, representing more than 100 different nationalities.

Rondo has worked alongside award winning NWCI on the Brisbane Supreme Court House based in central Brisbane since 2008. The $570million project crosses both traditional and modern features off their list, remaining true to their heritage whilst tying in the new wave of environmentally friendly and sustainably efficient buildings.

Rondo was chosen as a supplier to the project due to our support throughout the tender stage and our ability to provide Leighton Holdings with a total solution package, enlisting help and resources from USG Boral, James Hardie and Rockwool. At the peak of the project, it is estimated that approx. 800 local workers will be on-site, providing a fundamental and integral boost to the community and employment.

The benefit of having custom lengths sped up installation and also reduced wastage. Approximately 10,000 custom made studs were used to complete the project. Rondo also provided products used for internal lining and ceilings. During the construction stage supplying products to the site at the correct time for crane lifts was essential to the success of the project. Rondo and CSR worked in conjunction with Cree8 to ensure this happened by conducting regular site visits.

Rondo worked closely with C&L Ceilings who were charged with the wall and ceiling contract. In order to be sure that the building’s external facade would remain structurally secure and adhere to the architectural detail, C&L installed Fibrous Cement Sheets, supported by heavy gauge Rondo components.

Rondo’s main focus has been to complete 17 levels of one of the five office towers, of which two levels are for shops and a café. With the majority of the 70,000 lineal metres of product being Rondo DUO Exposed Grid System, Rondo continues to provide technical support for the project through weekly site visits.

Occupying a 2134m2 block of premium land, Leopold residential apartments is one of the newest commercial/residential developments in Melbourne’s residential and business district. The project involved the internal demolition of existing commercial fit out, the construction of an additional six levels and the fit-out of 174 residential apartments as well as four office tenancies. The works undertaken comprised of a new wall facade, the attachment of 97 new balconies to the existing structure, and installation of a structural steel transfer level with lightweight floor system (Powerscope).

Ocean Keys is a major shopping destination in Clarkson, one of Perth’s new fast growing suburbs. This $100 million expansion completed in October 2014 included the addition of retail and fresh food stores and new residential apartments. The shopping complex is now 65% larger with a total floor space of 35,000m². Rondo supplied Key- Lock Concealed Ceiling System and steel framing for the extensive plasterboard soffits and bulkheads on the project.

Regular onsite inspections in conjunction with the contractor Arc Plaster helped us to forecast any further products required for the project and ensure the project was delivered smoothly.

Rondo were approached by Expoconti to supply the necessary wall and ceiling component of the build. The tower features multiple “loft” style apartments, which allows it to nestle one and two-bedroom apartments in an overlapping formation, giving both high-ceiling living areas and lofty mezzanine interior spaces.

Working alongside builders JAXON Constructions, Hassell Architects and ANWEST Constructions, Rondo managed to provide specifications necessary for the position of the project which is subject to significant external wind loadings.

John Holland recently built the largest private Hospital in South Australia, adding to its already suburb health care facilities. Rondo worked alongside Contractor Brighton Australia and Architect STH Architects, to deliver this state-of-the-art facility. Rondo supported the $400m build with a range of products and systems.

The project was developed thanks to the assistance of builders BGC Construction, ceilings and walls M2 Contracting and distributors Perth Plasterboard Centre. Local supply chain efforts have proven this project to be a success with on-time delivery, reliability, excellent customer service and the ease of installation.

Mirvac’s mission to provide a beautiful and sustainable village was recognised in 2008 when they were the winner of the HIA LandCorp GreenSmart Award for the first release of Beachside. Rondo is closely working with our customer, Architectural Ceiling Systems, to serve the contract winners, Systeck, who have been involved in some of the largest projects in WA. In order to provide the best service, Rondo will continue to ensure that the correct amounts of stock required are available for our customer.

Rondo incorporated Steel Stud and Track, specifically 64mm track sections along with KEY-LOCK Suspended ceiling systems to perfect the final look of the complex.

The project includes the upgrade of Brisbane Showgrounds including the recently completed state-of-the-art Royal International Convention Centre, Plaza and Porte-Cochere together with 5.5 hectares of developments comprising of The Green and The Yards Residential Apartments, Kings Gate Commercial Precinct and the creation of King Street which will include a new shopping and dining strip.

Rondo supplied Steel Stud and Track, KEY-LOCK Furring Channel and Top Cross Rail, and EXANGLE P50 Shadowline Stopping Angle to complete the base fit out and wall linings on 45 levels of the building.

Rondo became involved with the project in mid-June when approached about using our Studs to make up the main walls that separate the building into individual shop outlets. As there was no time for the Contractor to source structural steel (which would take up to five weeks).
