The stadium required continuous onsite reviews including the change of design by our technical team. University of Birmingham Library

Part of a vast regeneration programme to improve student amenities, the UoB invested Ā£60m in a state-of-the-art academic library. The project aimed to celebrate the wider campus architectural styles and improve access to new resources like e-journals and wireless charging stations. Associated Architects chose SAS International to provide the high acoustic and finishing touches to the academic interior fit-out.
In order to create an effective library environment, acoustic performance must also be carefully considered. With the aim to create a space suited for thousands of scholars, bespoke acoustic metal wall panels were supplied to the library. Depending on the location of each tile, the panels were finished in white and black-grey PPC or anodised in regency gold. Specified with a 23% or 50% open area, the panels act as acoustic absorbers with an oblong perforation. Each panel is fitted with a black, fleece-wrapped acoustic pad for high performance.
The architects specified three additional acoustic treatments for open soffit areas over computer clusters and lounge spaces. SAS500 baffles and bespoke ring shaped and circular rafts were created by SAS International to fulfil this requirement.
The discs and raft-halos are an SAS150 hybrid designed to fulfil acoustic and service requirements while contributing to the contemporary look. Consisting of multiple panels, the concealed grid system creates a smooth finish enclosed using a steel perimeter trim. Long 3m baffles were also installed in a continuous sequence along walkways and group study areas. These options provide durable acoustic solution, minimising maintenance and improving access to the soffit and services.

Rondoās technical team highlight the quality of workmanship on this project, especially when comparing the designs to the finished installation. The stock was supplied on time and accurate with Rondo working with all parties throughout this project which is a credit to all involved.
State Aquatic Centre, SA

This massive project took two years of construction to complete, and Rondoās technical services team were able to provide design solutions for challenging areas in the project. This included a heavy gauge 150mm Steel Stud Wall Framing System which required alignment with and concealment of the structural frame of the building, and a 6 metre high internal dividing wall that was subjected to higher internal pressures due to the louvres installed.

This hurdle was overcome with the assistance of Rondoās Technical Team who created unique designs of the external faƧade framing which pleased Contractor Conrad Linings and Builder, Broad Construction Services. Furthermore, Rondo worked in consultation with Hyder Engineers for a solution of the 150mm MAXIframe External Walls and Framing that required galvanised sheet metal to be installed on top of the framework to prevent any potential water ingress, with Rondo supervising the correct installation.

To set the internal aesthetics apart from other similar projects being built in Brisbane, Wood Marsh Architects designed some jaw-dropping gold ribbon ceilings that hover above the modern curved walls, which elegantly wrap around the lobby floor. The Watson apartment complex is the epitome of elegance with contemporary homes, jaw-dropping views, finishes and details. Built in the 1960s, there was an extensive use of asbestos which took a lot of hard work and health precautions by the developer to remove before reinstallation/remodelling commenced. Rondo has provided extensive technical support since the initiation of the project, providing Rondo Steel Stud and KEY-LOCK Concealed Suspended Ceiling Systems to the $120 million development.

The curved suspended ceilings, that features wavy āskylightsā meant the Top Cross Rail component had to be made to a radius that met the architectural specification. This, in turn required the expertise of the Rondo Technical Services Team to ensure the wave, āskylightā feature (using KEY-LOCK Concealed Suspended Ceiling components) would actually work. Not only that, the Rondo Team also had to adhere to strict deadlines to ensure the material could be supplied to the project on time.
One New Change, London

One New Change features SAS International bespoke metal ceiling panels with an expanded metal mesh, finished in silver, red and black.
The ground-breaking, bold and perceptive Ā£300 million One New Change mixed-use development project won the MIPIM AR Future Project Award 2010. Now complete, the building has become known as the āStealth Bomberā after the radar-proof combat plane that inspired its faceted form and has also won a RIBA 2011 Award for London and LDSA Building Excellence Award.
The design incorporates pedestrian arcades converging at the core of the building, reinstating a historic north-south pedestrian route and allowing new panoramas of Londonās landmark St Paulās Cathedral.
SAS International supplied the ceiling solution for the retail corridors of the development with a concealed suspension system, working closely with the architects to create a result where no visible fixings can be seen through the ceiling plane.
To complement this, bespoke metal ceiling panels were produced with an expanded metal mesh, finished in silver, red and black.
A challenging material to work with, to ensure the mesh held a uniform shape and corners for the panels could be formed accurately, SAS Internationalās solution was to create a āpicture frameā behind each panel. This also helped to provide support for the concealed attachment bolts.
Design challenges at One New Change included the building grid size and shape (it was termed the most difficult site in Europe), the complex geometry of the structure (including some tight ceiling to structural beam heights), and a shared fire strategy between retail and office storeys.
Requirements to achieve an environmentally-friendly building, complying with Part L and BREEAM ratings, were also critical and the design uses a materials palette of limestone, metal, mirror and a new method of fritted glass on the exterior to help shield the interior from glare.

With the external structural steel framing having been installed 150mm out of position, Rondoās Technical Services Team came to the rescue and designed an external stud wall system using our MAXIframe External Wall Framing System to āfill the gap,ā including design of special header bracing details to support the wall.

The renovations seek to re-energise the area but remain committed to preserve Adelaideās most cherished department store. Four floors of retail space have had the base built by Interior Projects who have been a valued Rondo customer since 1988. Rondo provided essential technical expertise and design solutions for the fire walls and security mesh between tenancies.
City West Police Complex, VIC

Melbourneās CBD features a $230 million Victoria Police āsuperā complex. Designed by Woods Bagot Architects, the 12 level, 27,000m2 project provided Rondo Victoriaās Charlie Khoury with the opportunity to work with their project team in the early design process to come up with solutions to meet their architectural requirements. Together with Rondoās technical services engineers many solutions were found such as how to satisfy a requirement for the many free-standing walls to be constructed without using structural steel.

Riverscape - The Renovation, London

London is a vibrant, busy and beautiful city, boasting constant innovation and unique architecture. Now, developments have become bigger and more competitive year on year. With expectations on office workspaces becoming increasingly more open and flexible, the requirement for integratable security has become a complex task. This led to the existing building of 10 Queen Street Place, Riverscape to have a much-needed refurbishment following the trend of open atriums, flexible floor space and usable rooftop space.
Within this project, the interior and exterior were dramatically changed and enhanced utilising fresh entry and access control security solutions.
Located next to Southwark Bridge and a couple minutesā walk from the bustling area of Cannon Street Station is Riverscape. Originally opened back in 1980, the multi-storey office space was a modern development that sat on the sought-after area of the River Thames. This project was refurbed from top to bottom, with the original Boon Edam entrance solutions being upgraded to newer more innovative products.
The lead architect was Aukett Swanke with interior designers Barr Gazetas leading the design of the refurbishment and, main contractors being Overbury. Working for this project years prior in relation to the old security lanes and revolving doors that were installed by Boon Edam, the London Sales team knew the building and requirements needed. Itās common to see dated installations be retrofitted with newer security products that modernise the look and feel of an entrance as well as upgrade the technology associated with them.
