Application

Suitable as an intumescent fire protection for structural steel exposed to internal environments up to C3 (ISO-12944). Applicable for use on I-section beams, H columns, hollow sections and cellular beams. Can also be used as a repair and touch-up coating for damaged areas of freshly applied Hempafire Optima 500.


Coats by environmental classification:

Internal Structural Steel (C1–C2)

  • 1st coat: Hempadur Fast Dry 17410. DFT: 75 microns.
  • 2nd coat: Hempafire Optima 500 48880. DFT: Dependant on steel loadings. Minimum of 175 microns.
  • 3rd coat: Hempathane HS 55613 Gloss or Hempathane HS 55610 Semi-Gloss. DFT: 100 microns.

Description

Hempafire Optima 500 is a very low VOC, single component, water-borne acrylic thin film intumescent coating optimized for 120 minutes cellulosic fire protection for on-site applications, with fire resistance up to 180 minutes possible depending on the project. Tested according BS 476 20/21 and with ApplusFire third party certificate.

Preparation

All surfaces to be prepared in accordance with the coating manufacturer's written instructions.

Primer coats

Hempadur Fast Dry 17410. DFT: 75 microns.

Undercoats

Hempafire Optima 500 48880. DFT: Dependant on steel loadings. Minimum of 175 microns.

Finishing coats

Hempathane HS 55613 Semi-Gloss. DFT: 100 microns.

Hempathane HS 55610 Gloss. DFT: 100 microns.

Execution

Applied in accordance with the coating manufacturer's written instructions.

Surface material

Steel surfaces should be free of contaminants. New build steel should be abrasive blast finished to comply with AS 1627.4 Class 2.5. Refer to Hempel's Surface Preparation Guidelines for full surface preparation requirements prior to commencement of work.
